Baylor Football Earns Program-Record 38 Academic All-Big 12 Honors
Bears earn 24 first-team, 14 second-team selections for most in school history

IRVING, Texas – Baylor football picked up a program-record 38 Academic All-Big 12 honors Tuesday, as announced by the conference office.

The Bears collected a program-best 24 first-team selections, while an additional 14 second-team picks make BU’s total of 38 the most in school history.

Issac Power and Brayden Utley both earned their team-leading fourth-career Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors, while John Mayers, Noah Rauschenberg, Ben Sims and Griffin Speaks all collected first-team recognition for the third time in their careers. Dillon Doyle, Brooks Miller and Blake Shapen are members of the First Team for the second year in a row.

Chidi Ogbonnaya, a second-team honoree in 2021, earned his first-career First Team distinction alongside Tyrone Brown, Jonathan Davidson, TJ Franklin, Jacob Gall, Connor Galvin, Garrison Grimes, Ben Hamilton, Cooper Lanz, Devin Lemear, Grant Miller, Mark Milton, Tripp Mitchell, Caleb Parker and Tevin Williams III.

On the Second Team, Byron Hanspard Jr. makes his fourth-career appearance, while Craig Williams garnered second-team praise for the third time in his career and Christian Morgan did so for the second time.

Tony Anyanwu, Monaray Baldwin, Gavin Byers, Drake Dabney, Kyron Drones, Gavin Holmes, Jordan Jenkins, Matt Jones, Collin Losack, Jackie Marshall and Tate Williams each appeared on the Second Team for the first time in their careers.

First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulatively or the two previous semesters and must have participated in at least 20 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
