WACO, Texas – Baylor football’s Dillon Doyle, Drew Estrada, Jalen Pitre and Ben Sims have been named to the 2021 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team for District 7, as announced Thursday by the organization.

Baylor’s four selections are its most in a single season in program history.

Student-athletes are recognized by CoSIDA members for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. To be considered, one must accumulate a cumulative GPA between 3.30-4.00 with at least a sophomore athletic standing, while being a starter or key reserve for their respective team.

Doyle, a graduate student from Iowa City, Iowa, completed his undergraduate degree in human physiology and is currently working towards his MBA. He holds a 3.68 GPA over the course of his time at Baylor. On the field, Doyle leads the Bears with 66 total tackles, which also ranks ninth in the Big 12. He was a 2020 All-Big 12 honorable mention and a preseason 2021 All-Big 12 Third Team choice.

A graduate transfer from Dartmouth, Estrada completed his undergraduate degree in sociology modified economics before beginning his MBA at BU. He has a 3.71 GPA during his time as a Bear. This season, Estrada has caught 15 passes for 237 yards. He was most recently a 2019 All-Ivy League Second Team selection, but did not compete in the 2020 campaign as the Ivy League cancelled all competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pitre, an educational psychology graduate student with a 3.76 GPA, graduated from Baylor with a marketing and real estate degree. He was previously named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team in 2020. Currently, Pitre leads the conference with 14 tackles for loss and is the only player in Division I FBS college football with at least three fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles and two interceptions. He has tallied 55 tackles this year, including two sacks.

Originally from San Antonio, Sims holds a 3.34 GPA in environmental studies with a concentration in natural resource management. Of BU’s four 2021 selections, he is the only undergraduate honoree. Sims has hauled in 22 receptions for 288 yards and four touchdowns this year and moved up BU’s all-time leaderboard into a tie for most all-time receiving TDs by a tight end with seven. He also scored his first-career rushing touchdown vs. Texas.

The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. District 7 covers Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in mid-December.
