CHICAGO – Baylor junior defensive lineman James Lynch was named one of five finalists for the prestigious Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award, it was announced today by The Ted Hendricks Foundation.

Lynch, the 2019 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and Lineman of the Year, led the Big 12 with 10.5 sacks on the year and is a half a sack shy of tying the Baylor record for sacks in a season. He also ranks tied for the third in the conference with 15.5 tackles for loss.

A unanimous First Team All-Big 12 selection, Lynch is the all-time Baylor career record holder for sacks (19.0) and helped the Bears tie the program record for sacks in a season (40.0). Lynch, along with fellow defensive linemen Bravvion Roy and James Lockhart are the reason the Bears lead the nation with sacks (20.0) when rushing just three.

The Round Rock, Texas, native led all of FBS (according to SportsInfoSolutions) with 62 QB pressures.

The four other finalists for the honor are Bradlee Anae (Utah), Yetur Gross-Matos (Penn State), Curtis Weaver (Boise State) and Chase Young (Ohio State).
The Ted Hendricks Award is named in honor of college football's first three-time first-team All-American. On-field performance, exceptional winning attitude, leadership abilities, contributions to school and community and academic preparedness are some of the criteria used to determine the Award's recipient each year. Members of the national media, head coaches, professional scouts and former winners are included on the Award's selection committee. Candidates may represent any class (freshman through senior) as well as any four-year NCAA accredited school. The candidate's primary position must be defensive end.
The final vote will be tallied December 10th and the 2019 recipient will be named on December 11th.
