sophomore outfielder Jared McKenzie was selected by the Washington Nationals in the fifth round of the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft Monday afternoon.<br>
<br>
McKenzie, the 141st overall selection, becomes the 151st Bear to be drafted all-time. The pick marks Baylor’s fourth-consecutive season with a draftee in the top-five rounds, the second-longest stretch in program history behind 1998-2003’s six-year streak.
BU has now had at least one player selected in each of the last 32 MLB drafts, dating back to 1991.<br>
<br>
A career .346 hitter, McKenzie ranks third all-time on Baylor’s career batting average leaderboard. He capped off his collegiate tenure with 21 total home runs and 91 RBI, while slugging .555 (8<sup>th</sup> all-time) over parts of three seasons. The native
of Round Rock, Texas, was twice named to the All-Big 12 Team in addition to receiving multiple All-America honors for his outstanding 2021 campaign.<br>

McKenzie joins Kameron Esthay (26th round, 2017), Jeff Mandel (19th round, 2007) and Cory VanAllen (5th round, 2006) as the four Bears to be selected by the Nationals all-time.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
