junior shortstop Jack Pineda has been named the Big 12 Co-Player of the Week, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office.<br>
<br>
Pineda led the Bears with a .471 batting average (t-7<sup>th</sup> in Big 12) and eight hits (t-2<sup>nd</sup> in Big 12) on the week. He also tied for the league lead with seven runs scored across BU’s four games and hit three home runs, including two leadoff
blasts against SFA and No. 8 Oklahoma State. His 18 total bases and 1.059 slugging percentage were tops on the Baylor squad for the week as well.<br>
<br>
For the season, Pineda raised his batting average to a team-leading .309 and has hit seven long balls with 35 RBIs in 2022. He leads the Bears with 27 extra-base hits, including five triples, which are the most by a Bear since 2016. Defensively, Pineda anchors
the nation’s leading double-play combo as Baylor’s 61 doubles plays turned are the most of any Division I team. The Bears turned six on the week across their final four games of the regular season.<br>
<br>
Pineda’s award marks BU’s fifth weekly accolade of the 2022 season. Tyler Thomas (Pitcher, March 7), Kyle Nevin (Player, April 18), Kobe Andrade (Co-Newcomer, April 18) and Jake Jackson (Pitcher, May 16) have all been previously recognized. This is the first
time since 2018 that the Bears have had at least one honoree in each of the three categories. Under seventh-year head coach Steve Rodriguez, Pineda becomes the fifth Big 12 Player of the Week and 24<sup>th</sup> overall weekly award winner.<br>
