"Arial",sans-serif;color:#0E101A">Baylor senior guard James Akinjo has been selected as one of five finalists for the 2022 Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award, as announced Monday by the Naismith Memorial Basketball
Hall of Fame.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#0E101A">Named for Class of 1971 Hall of Famer Bob Cousy, the award is in its 19th season and is given annually to the nation’s top point guard in Division I college basketball.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#0E101A">Joining Akinjo as finalists are Gonzaga’s Andrew Nembhard, Kentucky’s Sahvir Wheeler, UCLA’s Tyger Campbell and Villanova’s Collin Gillespie.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#0E101A">The Arizona transfer has also been named to the Sporting News Midseason All-America First Team, the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25, the Naismith Trophy Watch List, and the Lute Olson
Award Midseason Watch List. Additionally, he was named the Big 12 Player of the Week on Jan. 3 and Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on two occasions (Jan. 10 and Feb. 14).</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#0E101A">Akinjo leads the Big 12 and ranks in the top-20 nationally with 5.7 assists per game. In addition to leading the conference in free throw percentage (.839), he is second in the
league in steals per game (2.04), third in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.82) and ninth in points per game (12.9).</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#0E101A">The Oakland, Calif., native has scored in double figures 18 times this season while posting 5+ assists in 19 of 27 games and at least one steal in 24 of 27 games.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#0E101A">This distinction marks the second year in a row that Baylor is represented with one of five finalists for the Cousy Award after Jared Butler was named a 2021 finalist.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#0E101A">Akinjo and the Bears return to action when they travel to Austin to face Texas at 8 p.m. CT Monday in the final game at the Frank Erwin Center. BU wraps up the regular season by
