McGhee was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.<br>
<br>
McGhee was dominant at the net in two matches at Iowa State, recording 14 blocks (2.33 per set) on the weekend, including a career-high 11 in BU’s sweep on Saturday. She was instrumental in helping the Bears to a season-best 13 rejections in the series finale,
assisting on nearly 85 percent of the team’s stuffs. This is the sophomore middle blocker’s fifth-career weekly accolade, third defensive honor, and first of the 2020 season.<br>
<br>
With her 11-block performance on Saturday, McGhee became the first Bear to collect at least 10 rejections in a single match since Shelly Fanning vs. Hawaii on Nov. 29, 2018. Her career-high 11 is one shy of BU’s all-time record for a three-set match. The San
Antonio native’s 23 points over the weekend was second on the team, helping the Bears extend their win streak to nine matches.<br>
<br>
Baylor has now earned four Big 12 weekly awards in 2020, tied for the most in the league alongside Kansas State and Texas. This is the first time that the Bears have claimed the same award in three-straight weeks since Sept. 23–Oct. 7, 2019 (offensive), as
Shanel Bramschreiber and Laché Harper were previously honored with the defensive accolade this season.<br>
