Game notes:
• Baylor continues its road trip through the Beehive State, facing the BYU Cougars on Saturday at 3 p.m. from the Marriott Center in Provo.
• The Bears face BYU for the third time in the Cougs’ Big 12 era, splitting matchups 1-1 in its first two years as a member institution. In BU’s most recent trip to Provo in 2024, the Cougars defeated Baylor 78-66.
• BU and Texas are tied for the national lead with two wins over top-10 teams and is one of two teams in the Big 12 Conference West Virginia with more than one ranked victory, joining West Virginia.
• Baylor is ranked 18th in the AP Poll and 17th in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll after its 16-3 start to the season.
• BU enters the contest on a nine-game streak of true road victories, winning 15 of its last 17, and is one of four Big 12 teams with an unblemished road record this season. The Bears join Texas Tech, Utah and West Virginia as Big 12 teams undefeated in true road games, the most among DI conferences this season.
• Through games on Jan. 14, Baylor is ranked No. 29 in the NET.
• The Bears are 4-3 against Quadrant 1 opponents, with BU’s top win coming against Duke in Paris to open the season.
• Baylor’s three Quad 1 losses have come against opponents with a combined 52-4 record.
• Baylor’s defense dominated Utah in Salt Lake City, allowing eight first-quarter field goals from the Utes before holding the home team to just eight field goals in the remaining 30 minutes of play. It was the fourth time in the Nicki Collen era the Bears held a Big 12 opponent to 16 or fewer field goals in the regular season or conference tournament.
• Utah, the nation’s eighth-best 3-point shooting team entering the game, was held to three makes from distance off 25 attempts (12%).
• Bella Fontleroy tallied her 100th career block in the matchup after three swats, with eight points including a pair of 3-pointers.
• The Bears sunk four first-quarter 3-pointers, their second-most of the season and most so far in league play.
• Triples from Taliah Scott and Kiersten Johnson and two-point buckets from Scott and Jana Van Gytenbeek fueled a game-high 10-point run as the second quarter came to a close.
• Redshirt sophomore Ines Goryanova made the first appearance of her career, playing 1:28 combined in the second and fourth quarters.
