LUBBOCK, Texas – Tiriah Kelley has "found a little zone" in how to run the 200 meters.

The Baylor senior sprinter broke her own program record on Saturday's closing day of the Jarvis Scott Invite, blistering to a 22.53-second time that's tied for the fastest in the nation before the altitude adjustment. That clipped the 22.56 she ran last month in the season-opening Corky Classic on this same track.

"I still think she's got a little bit more left in the tank to run a little faster," Baylor coach Michael Ford said. "Another great race. And I think this gives her a little more confidence that she would come back and run what she did. Now, we'll get ready and try to win her first Big 12 title in a couple weeks."

The Bears will return to the Sports Performance Center in two weeks – their third trip this season – for the Big 12 Championships on Feb. 27-28.

"Now, it's just getting back to work and getting a couple people healthy," said Ford, who held out hurdler Demario Prince, high jumper Landon Freeman and quartermiler Serafima Lucero. "We left a couple people home just to get them a mental break and some physical breaks. So, we'll train this week and then get ready for Big 12s."

Baylor recorded 13 PRs or season bests on Saturday, including freshmen Alyssa Jones (23.66) and Success Oyibu (23.83) both recording PRs to finish in the top eight in the 200 meters. On the men's side, former Baylor All-American Demar Francis won the 200, but Austen Diggs (20.95), freshman Bailey Hashmi (21.01), Laurenz Colbert (21.14) and Ricquan Graham (21.43) all posted season PRs.

"I thought the 200 kids all ran really well today," Ford said. "That's the name of game is trying to see improvements throughout the week. I think all of them either an a PR or season's best at this meet, knowing that this is their second time on the track, and then they have conference."

After pole vaulters Tenly Kuhn, Molly Haywood and Alencia Lentz took three of the top five spots on the women's side on Friday, Parker Brannon and freshman Grant Vlaun followed suit with a pair of top-five finishes for the men. Brannon took third with a season-best mark of 16-6 ½, with Vlaun fifth in a collegiate PR of 16-0 ½.

Both 4x400-meter relay teams finished fourth in the meet, with the men's quartet of Aren Spencer, Malik Franklin, Abbas Ali and Tyler Honeyman winning their heat and recording a season-best time of 3:06.87. For the women, Aaronya Kinchen, Kelley, Jones and Jada Edwards were clocked in 3:41.83.

After their first week off since the spring semester started, the Bears will return to Lubbock for the Big 12 Championships.
