WACO, Texas – Baylor football quarterback Sawyer Robertson has been named the Walter Camp Award National Offensive Player of the Week after his standout performance in BU’s 48-45 win at No. 17/16 SMU on Saturday.
Robertson threw for 440 yards and four touchdowns, completed 68% of his passes (34-for-50) without an interception, and added 20 rushing yards in leading the Bears back from a 14-point deficit to down the Mustangs in double overtime. With just over eight minutes left in the fourth quarter, Robertson engineered an eight-play, 72-yard scoring drive to bring BU within one possession. He then led a 10-play, 82-yard game-tying drive, connecting with Kobe Prentice with just 34 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime.
In the fourth quarter and both overtime periods combined, Robertson went 7-for-12 through the air for 127 yards and two scores.
This marks the fifth time since 2004 that a Baylor quarterback had been named the Walter Camp National FBS Player of the Week. Robertson is the fourth different BU signal caller to be recognized, joining Griffin III (2011-twice), Bryce Petty (2014) and Seth Russsell (2015).
Additionally, Robertson and wide receiver Josh Cameron have both been named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award honorable mention for their showings in week two.
Cameron also had a massive day for BU, going for a career-high nine receptions and a personal-best 151 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. He caught a 33-yard TD in the second quarter to pull Baylor within three points, then connected on a 48-yard strike, a career-long TD reception, from Robertson and dragged defenders into the end zone to make it a one-possession game late in the fourth quarter. Cameron also came up with a big-time snag in overtime, a 15-yard gain to put the Bears on the doorstep of scoring first in OT. The effort marked Cameron’s third-career multi-TD performance.
Robertson became just the third college QB since 2000 to throw for at least 850 yards and 7 TDs without an INT to open a season. Robertson has put up the top two passing performances in the Football Bowl Subdivision after throwing for 419 yards against Auburn in the season opener.
Furthermore, Robertson became the first Big 12 QB to throw for 400 or more yards in the first two games of a season since Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes did so in 2016. Robertson joins Mahomes, Oklahoma State’s Brandon Weeden (2011) and Baylor’s Robert Griffin III (2011) as the only Big 12 quarterbacks in the last 15 years to throw for at least 400 yards in three-straight games.
On Monday, Robertson was named to the Davey O’Brien Award’s Great 8 List and has since been named the award’s national quarterback of the week for week two. Lastly, Robertson is up for the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week after being named one of the award’s eight “Stars of the Week.” Fans can vote here<https://allstatesugarbowl.org/news/2025/9/8/stars.aspx> until Wednesday at 9 a.m. for what they think was the best performance from week two; the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award QB of the Week.
