Game notes:
• Baylor heads to The Most Magical Place on Earth for the WBCA Showcase to play Iowa on Thursday night from State Farm Field House in the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
• The Bears face off with the Hawkeyes for the first time outside of the NCAA Tournament with two prior matchups in 2015 and 2019. The previous win in 2019 came in the Elite Eight on the way to the program’s third national championship.
• Baylor returns to the court with a new-look roster that features six new players and three new coaches, highlighted by three Auburn pickups: Assoc. HC Johnnie Harris, redshirt sophomore Taliah Scott and sophomore Yuting Deng.
• Baylor is ranked seventh in the AP Poll and 10th in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll after their 4-0 start to the season.
• It is Baylor’s first time in the national top 10 rankings since January 2024 and the 23rd edition featuring Baylor in the top 10 under Collen, 312th in program history. The Bears hold a 527-67 record in games playing as a national top-10 team.
• Taliah Scott is one of seven players in the last 10 seasons to score at least 20 points in four games with a new team, joining Naomi White (Northern Arizona, active), Hannah Hidalgo (Notre Dame), Caitlin Clark (Iowa), Dyaisha Fair (Buffalo), Aari McDonald (Arizona) and Jessica Shepard (Nebraska).
• Three Baylor players eclipsed the 20-point mark in BU’s win over Le Moyne at Foster Pavilion. Darianna Littlepage-Buggs (26), Taliah Scott (22) and Bella Fontleroy (21) became the first BU trio since NaLyssa Smith (30), Hannah Gusters (22) and Queen Egbo (21) showed out against Northwestern State on Dec. 18, 2020.
• Fontleroy’s 21 points put her exactly at 1,000 career points, joining Littlepage-Buggs as the only two players on the active roster with four-figure points.
• Scott upped her career high assist total to nine, while Jana Van Gytenbeek secured a new personal-best rebound mark to seven. Kiera Pemberton scored her first points as a Bear and Yuting Deng got two swats on the ball.
• Baylor secured an eight-point victory over UNLV on the road in front of a sellout crowd in its first true road game of the season.
• BU trailed 49-43 entering the fourth quarter but outscored the Lady Rebels 19-5 over that last frame, holding UNLV to just one field goal in the last nine minutes of play.
• Taliah Scott finished with yet another 20-point performance, with nine fourth-quarter points. The redshirt-sophomore had 23 points after shooting 8-of-18 from the field.
• Darianna Littlepage-Buggs led the Bears’ rebounding efforts, claiming a season-high 12.
• Scott recorded a then career-best five assists, while Kiersten Johnson led BU’s 11-block showing with a career-high five swats.
