WACO, Texas – Baylor improved to 3-0 on the season with a 94-81 win over Tarleton State on Friday night at Foster Pavilion, using a hot-shooting first half and a 26-point performance from Cameron Carr to take control early and hold off a second-half surge from the Texans.

The Bears shot 58-percent from the floor and knocked down 11 threes, crossing the 90-point mark for the second game this season. Overall, the Bears continue to share the wealth on the offensive end, with all three games having at least four players in double-figures, including tonight’s five.

Baylor’s offense set the tone with a 55-point first half, fueled by Carr’s 17 first-half points and 10 more from Dan Skillings Jr. By the end of the first half, Carr, Skillings Jr. and Obi Agbim all had reached double-figures.

Isaac Williams IV delivered a season-high 16 points off the bench, the most the Corpus-Christi transfer has put up since January of last season, with Agbim finishing with 14, Skillings Jr. with 13 and Tounde Yessoufou with 12 points on the night.

Overall, Baylor attacked the transition in the paint throughout the night, finishing with a 42-40 edge inside.

Tarleton State’s Dior Johnson poured in 42 points, a Foster Pavilion record, to keep the Texans within striking distance, including 30 in the second half, but Baylor answered every push with timely scoring.

THE RUNDOWN

Tarleton State (2-3, 0-0) struck first with a three-pointer, but Baylor quickly answered with a jumper by Carr to get RV/RV Baylor (3-0, 0-0) rolling. From that point on, the Bears never trailed for the remainder of the game, maintaining the lead or staying tied since the opening minute.

The first half featured explosive moments on both ends. Obi Agbim ignited the crowd with a blocked dunk, and Carr delivered a highlight-reel poster dunk at the under-five minute mark. After sinking a free throw, Carr pushed Baylor’s lead to 18, its largest of the half, before capping the period with a dunk in the final second.

In a fast-paced, high-efficiency half, both teams shot 58 and 57 percent, respectively. Baylor topped 50 first-half points for the first time since December 27, 2024.

Baylor opened the second half with a jumper from Michael Rataj, while Tarleton State’s Dior Johnson answered from deep thirty-eight seconds later to put the Texans on the board and to start his impressive second half.

As the Bears went ahead with a 12-2 run, Tarleton State responded as they used a 9-0 run between to pull within ten at the under-eight timeout. From there, the teams traded baskets throughout the closing minutes, but Baylor gradually pulled away as the night went on.

Rataj capped the night with a milestone bucket, scoring his 1,000th career point with 55 seconds left, while the Bears overall finished with eight blocks, 21 assists, and its second straight game with five players in double figures.

Despite the loss, Johnson with the Texans delivered a historic performance, becoming the first opposing player to surpass 35 points since 2019 and setting the Foster Pavilion single-game scoring record for an opponent.

WHAT’S NEXT

The Bears will begin preparing for the Players Era Tournament held in Las Vegas, Nev. from Nov. 24-27. Baylor will face off against Creighton on Nov. 24 at 1 p.m. CT on truTV.
