WACO, Texas – No. 23 Baylor is set for a weekend double-dip, hosting West Virginia and Utah at the Ferrell Center, beginning Friday night at 7 p.m.

BU has dominated the series with West Virginia, winning 24 of the 27 meetings, including each of the last 18. While WVU has dropped eight of its 10 matches in conference play, it has a win over a ranked BYU team and has gone to five sets five times in Big 12 play this season. Head coach Ryan McGuyre knows his team needs to bring that consistency they’ve shown when they are at their best.

“Everybody in our conference is good, so we’ve got to be able to bring our best,” he said. “I can look to individual performances at Colorado or Iowa State that I thought were good. But our ability for everyone to be consistently good is what we need to do to win this weekend at home, but it will also make us better when we get back out on the road.”

11-2 this season, when winning the opening set, Baylor has won all nine opening sets at home, en route to an 8-1 record in the friendly confines. In addition to the Bears hitting .38 percentage points higher at home, they are limiting opponents to a .182 average in Waco as opposed to .226 on the road, which has aided in eight of its 12 wins coming in the 254.

Baylor will also look to regain its strong serving form, averaging 1.74 aces per set in its 12 wins and just .87 in its eight losses. Setter Harley Kreck has led the charge from the line, ranking seventh in the conference at .34 aces per set.

Up front, Gabbi Essix is seventh in the league in blocks per set (1.24), while freshman Morgan Madison continues to control the back court with the Big 12’s ninth-best dig rate at 3.54 per set.

On Sunday, the Bears will host Utah on Luau Day, looking to even the all-time series with the Utes at a match apiece. The first 500 students will receive free Baylor-themed Hawaiian shirts ahead of the match.
