WACO, Texas -- Baylor football has had two of its first three game times and television designations determined, it was announced by the Big 12 Conference on Thursday.
Baylor will open the season on Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. on FOX vs. Auburn at McLane Stadium.
The Bears will then venture to face SMU, with a game time and TV info still to be announced for the game at 32,000-seat Gerald J. Ford Stadium on Sept. 6, with the ‘Stangs coming off a College Football Playoff season in their debut in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The Bears will return home on Sept. 13 to host Samford in their final non-conference, regular-season game of the year. Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
The season lid-lifter will be the first meeting between Baylor and Auburn since 1976, with the Bears owning a 2-1-1 lead in the all-time series. This marks the third all-time meeting with Samford, all held in Waco, starting in 2002 with a 56-12 win. The last meeting was in 2005, a 48-14 win.
The Bears are one of just two teams in the nation who will play 11 Power Four opponents in 2025 and boast a nine-game conference scheduled that features Arizona State, Kansas State, UCF, Utah and Houston at home, and Oklahoma State, TCU, Cincinnati and Arizona on the road.
BU is coming off an eight-win season that saw the Bears win their final six games of the regular season, the longest such win streak in program history.
The Bears are buoyed by the return of several standouts from 2024, including senior quarterback Sawyer Robertson, senior wide receiver Josh Cameron, sophomore running back Bryson Washington and junior linebacker Keaton Thomas.
Robertson is in his second year leading the offense after throwing for 3,071 yards with 28 TDs and just eight interceptions, while rushing for 230 yards and four TDs.
Cameron established himself as a force over the last two years, totaling 52 catches for 754 yards and 10 TDs, while finishing two punt returns shy of leading the nation in average (20.7), which saw BU’s last four opponents refuse to kick to him, with Cameron owning the program standard for punt-return average (18.18).
Washington rolled to a 1,000-yard rushing season in just 11 games, earning freshman All-America honors from the Football Writers Association of America and The Athletic. He started the final 11 games of the year and totaled 12 rushing TDs and a program record for freshmen rushing yards, rolling to six 100+ yard games.
Thomas emerged as one of the nation’s best linebackers over his 13 games, totaling 114 tackles despite playing the majority of the season with a cast on one hand. He earned first-team All-Big 12 Conference honors and had four games with 10+ tackles.
The Bears also return four starters from an offensive line that ranked sixth nationally in offensive line efficiency rating, several standout defenders including defensive lineman Jackie Marshall, safety Devyn Bobby, and 2023 Freshman All-America cornerback Caden Jenkins. Overall, BU welcomes back 84.8% of its rushing yards, 90.4% of its passing yards and 62.9% of its receiving yards from a year ago, which was the debut season of offensive coordinator Jake Spavital.
