CARLSBAD, Calif. — Baylor women’s golf continues the best stretch in program history when it opens its fifth-straight NCAA Championship on Monday morning at Omni La Costa.

Two strokes from missing out on the postseason entirely because of the new “.500 rule”<https://golfweek.usatoday.com/story/sports/golf/2024/09/11/womens-college-golf-500-rule-changes-schedules/75175445007/>, the Bears advanced out of the NCAA Norman regional as a No. 7 seed, the second-straight year BU overperformed its seed to advance to La Costa. Head coach Jay Goble has seen a significant change in his team over the last few weeks, and he is optimistic entering this weekend.

“Yeah, I think we got a free pass out here,” he said. “We've had our ups and downs throughout the year, but going into regionals, we just talked about concentrating on our games and not worrying about anything else. Unfortunately, the year has been tough, but things are clicking and feel good now. We had a little conversation about playing with freedom and having fun. While not many expected us to be here, we played some good golf last week, and I think we can play better golf this week. We're going to really enjoy being in this tournament and being at this championship, and I do think we have some good golf left in us.”

Silje Ohma will cap a re-trenching year at the No. 1 position on Friday. An All-America honorable mention selection in 2023, Ohma struggled in 2024 but has improved her stroke average by 2.26 strokes this season, leading the team at 72.91.

Bridget Boczar will play at No. 2 for the second-straight event. A steady presence in the lineup throughout the year, Boczar provided that once again last week in Norman with a 2-over 218, punctuated by a final-round 72 to help BU clinch its berth in Carlsbad.

Ashleen Kaur will play at No. 3, making her second appearance at La Costa. The freshman impressed last season in Carlsbad, shooting two rounds at par or better, finishing just at 5-over, missing the individual cut by just one shot.

BaiMai Seema will be back at the No. 4 spot for the NCAA championship. The senior will join Rosie Belsham as the only two players in program history to appear in four NCAA Championships. Seema made the cut as an individual a season ago, tying for 28th, the highest finish by a BU individual since Gurleen Kaur tied for 28th in 2021.

The final spot in the lineup will go to Malena Castro. The freshman from Argentina has appeared in six tournaments this spring after enrolling in January. The first BU freshman to shoot par or better in their NCAA regional debut since Gurleen Kaur in 2018, Castro contributed a counting score in all three rounds last week in Oklahoma.

Mallory Matthews will serve as the team’s alternate for a second-straight event.
