WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball dropped a 14-4 contest to Kansas State on Saturday at Baylor Ballpark in Waco.

BU (15-7, 1-4) couldn’t keep up with the K-State offense (15-7, 5-0) which pounded out 16 hits and scored in six different innings to pull away from the Bears. Redshirt sophomore infielder Jack Little homered twice, including a solo shot to lead off the bottom of the first, and redshirt senior outfielder Enzo Apodaca tallied his third-straight multi-hit game in the loss.

Kansas State starter Michael Quevedo earned the win with 5.1 strong innings, allowing just three runs with six strikeouts, while the BU staff surrendered nine walks.

THE RUNDOWN
Little got things going on the very first pitch he saw, driving a fastball 401 feet over the left field wall to give the Bears a quick 1-0 advantage.

However, K-State answered back quickly in the top of the second with a two-run bloop single and another RBI base knock later in the inning, sandwiching a run-scoring passed ball. The Wildcats added on in the fourth with a two-run double, making it 6-1.

A solo home run in the fifth swelled the Wildcats’ lead to 7-1 and the visitors plated another in the sixth with another RBI blooper.

Baylor got back on the board in the bottom of the sixth as redshirt senior designated hitter Hunter Simmons crushed an RBI double off the batter’s eye in center field. Senior outfielder Ty Johnson beat out an RBI infield single later in the inning to trim the deficit to 8-3.

K-State responded with three more runs in the top of the seventh as an RBI single, an RBI fielder’s choice and a sacrifice fly put the Cats up 11-3.

Little’s second home run of the game came in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to spark a rally as Kansas State put the exclamation point on top with a three-run homer in the eighth.

HIGHLIGHTS
• Redshirt sophomore INF Jack Little extended his on-base streak to 17 games with his first-career multi-HR game.

QUOTABLE
Head Coach Mitch Thompson
On his team’s performance today…
“We’re going to have to flush it. If we don’t and today lingers into tomorrow, then tomorrow is not going to be very good. That’s part of being mature enough to understand it and get past it. Everybody goes through stretches of the season like this. We’ve had lots of good outings and good efforts this year. This has been a couple of rough days in a row here against a good ball club, and I give K-State credit, but we’ve got to be better and that’s what we’ve got to take ownership of.”

WHAT’S NEXT
Baylor (15-7, 1-4) looks to salvage the series against Kansas State (15-7, 5-0) in Sunday’s series finale with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at Baylor Ballpark in Waco.
