WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball took care of Tarleton Tuesday night by a final of 7-2 at Baylor Ballpark in Waco, riding 6.2 scoreless innings from its bullpen and a pair of two-run knocks from Ty Johnson and Pearson Riebock.

BU (9-3) used six different pitchers in relief to shut down the Texans (4-9) as redshirt senior right-hander Andrew Petrowski picked up his first win of the year, retiring all four batters he faced with two strikeouts.

Fresh faces were a big part of the victory for the Bears, as Riebock, a freshman infielder, had a two-run double and freshman right-hander Camden Clewett struck out two in 1.1 scoreless frames. Veterans also did their part with multi-hit efforts from seniors Enzo Apodaca, Johnson and Hunter Teplanszky.

THE RUNDOWN
Tarleton got to freshman lefty Carson Bailey for two runs in the first, but the rookie starter settled in nicely to fan three in 2.1 innings of work.

Petrowski was the first arm out of the bullpen in the third, gathering two outs before the Bears broke through with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Senior outfielder Wesley Jordan got BU on the board with a sacrifice fly before Johnson’s two-run single gave the Bears the lead at 3-2.

In the fifth, Riebock added to the lead with a two-run double off the top of the right-center field wall and later came around to score on Teplanszky’s RBI single, making it 6-2. BU tacked on one more in the sixth on an RBI bloop single from Jordan.

That would be all for either side, as junior lefty Stefan Stahl, redshirt senior righty Patrick Hail, Clewett and junior right-hander Grayson Murry each put up zeros the rest of the night. Baylor’s pitchers combined to face the minimum in seven innings and held the Texans scoreless in eight different frames.

QUOTABLE
Head Coach Mitch Thompson
On the pitching performance tonight…
“I thought Carson [Bailey] threw the ball well, the ball was jumping out of his hand. Then to see six and two-thirds of scoreless innings from the bullpen was great. They only gave up two hits, punched out eight and didn’t walk anybody. That will win anywhere you go, so it was a great job by the bullpen.”

Freshman INF Pearson Riebock
On making an impact as a freshman…
“It’s been really cool to get on the field early in my career. It’s really just the guys around me picking me up when I need it. We’re always there for each other. We’re a brotherhood.”

Freshman RHP/UT Camden Clewett
On his first strikeouts…
“It’s unreal. You work so hard for this in the fall, you grind with your guys and now it’s come to fruition. It’s a great feeling.”

WHAT’S NEXT
Baylor (9-3) hosts Loyola Marymount (7-5) for a three-game series at Baylor Ballpark, beginning on Friday, March 7, at 6:30 p.m.
