LUBBOCK, Texas – Making its sixth-straight appearance in Texas Tech’s Corky Classic, the Baylor track & field team is ready to hit the road for the second meet of the 2025 indoor season.

The Corky Classic is set to begin on Friday at 3 p.m. and last through Saturday afternoon at the Sports Performance Center.

The Bears head to Lubbock following a solid start to the season at last week’s McFerrin-12 Degree Invitational at Texas A&M, where they secured five event wins and debuted 19 freshmen in their first collegiate meet.

Demar Francis put the conference on watch as he earned Big 12 Athlete of the Week honors for his impressive 200m time of 20.93 he put up at College Station. His mark led him to win the 200m event and currently ranks first in the Big 12, second in the NCAA and fourth in the World in 2025. Francis also won Baylor's Performer of the Week reward for his impressive run.

Alexis Brown soared to new heights in her season-opening debut in the long jump, where she defeated her competition with an impressive mark of 21-10.25. The jump by Brown broke the indoor long jump Baylor program, meet and facility record.

Bears continued to have success in the field events as pole vaulter Molly Haywood tied her indoor personal best mark at 14-5.25 while also breaking the meet record by 3.5 feet and freshman Iyanna Webb, making her collegiate debut, earned her first gold medal in the triple jump with a 42-2 mark.

BU had seven entries into the Top-12 Marks of Indoor 2025 Bests, provided by USTFCCA. Francis 200m run comes in at No. 2 of men’s 200m, while the men’s 4x400 relay squad of Aren Spencer, Ricquan Graham, Austen Diggs and Tyler Honeyman sits at No. 11 with a time of 3:11.44. Tiriah Kelley’s first place finish in the women’s 200m at 23.20 lands at No. 3, while Haywood’s pole vault performance is at No. 4. In the women’s long jump, Brown’s record-breaking mark is at No. 3 while freshman Janae De Gannes mark of 20-9.75 is at No. 9.

With all results considered from the beginning of the indoor qualification period on December 1, those seven Bears also fall within the top-16 marks in NCAA DI competition, a threshold needed to make it to Virginia Beach’s NCAA Indoor National Championship meet in March.

Baylor looks to repeat from last year’s performance at the 2024 Corky Classic as Nathaniel Ezekiel posted the best 600-yard time on a banked track in NCAA history with a clocked time of 1:07.44. The Bears ended the meet with nine competitors landing in medal position.
