WACO, Texas – Baylor track & field has hired Aaliyah Miller to serve as assistant coach, head coach Michael Ford announced Tuesday.
“I’m super excited to have Aaliyah Miller back here now as a coach,” said Ford. “She had an awesome career as a student athlete, and I think she’ll have an amazing career now as a coach. I think the analysis she has of to be running at the highest level, being a former national champion and a Big 12 champion will help her be able to communicate with our student athletes. Also, I think on the recruiting side, she is still running as a pro and so going into homes and talking to parents, she’s a good representative of Baylor and our track program. Truly looking forward to her coaching career starting this year.”
Miller, an alum of Baylor, earned her BBA in marketing in 2020 and MBA in 2022. On the track, Miller carved her name in the record books as the most decorated woman in all-time conference titles with nine Big-12 titles and became the first Baylor woman to earn a national championship in the 800m event in 2021.
Miller, a five-time All-American in the indoor and outdoor 800m and 4x400 relay, currently is the BU Indoor and Outdoor school record holder (800m), BU Outdoor school record holder (SMR) and Big 12 Indoor and Outdoor meet record holder (800m).
The McKinney, Texas, native holds personal best times of:
Indoor PB: 400m - 54.82 | 800m - 2:00.69 (Baylor school record) | 600m - 1:28.31 | 1,000m - 2:44.66
Outdoor PB: 400m - 53.87 | 1,500m - 4:22.45| 800m - 2:00.87 (Baylor school record)
Cross Country PB: 5K - 18:28.9 | 4K - 15:01.8 | 6K - 21:50.4 | 3.12 MILE - 19:13.1
Her epic 2021 indoor campaign was highlighted by winning the national championship in the 800 meters after going wire-to-wire in a meet-record time of 2:00.69 to win by .52 seconds (held an almost two-second lead at the 600-meter mark at 1:27.49). Miller was a Big 12 Champion in the 800 meters, cruising to a four-second victory and breaking the meet record set by Marleena Eubanks of Kansas in 2019 with a time of 2:02.98. Additionally, the Bear set the school and meet record in the 1,000 meters at the Texas Tech Corky Classic with a time of 2:44.66, surpassing Nichole Jones' Baylor record that had stood for 14 years.
Later in the 2021 outdoor season, Miller set the Baylor school record in a historic 800 meters at the Michael Johnson Invitational, finishing as the runner-up in a time of 2:00.87 behind only Olympic Gold Medalist Athing Mu.
Since competing for the Bears, Miller signed as an On Pro Athlete and has been competing professionally. Miller competed in the 2023 USA Indoor Championships and finished 4th in the 800 and earned gold at the 2023 Portland Track Festival in the 800. In 2024, Miller finished 5th in the 800 at the Portland Track Festival.
Miller joined the Baylor track & field staff in January of 2025 and will contribute to the Bears 2025 season that opens on Friday, January 10 at the McFerrin-12 Degree Invitational in College Station.
