ORLANDO, Fla.— Baylor women’s golf completed an impressive win at the PDI Intercollegiate on Monday afternoon at Eagle Creek Golf Club, shooting a 30-under 834, the second-lowest score relative to par in program history.

All five players in Baylor's lineup finished the event in red figures, the first time a BU team has done that since April 13, 2021, at the Lone Star Invitational.

Silje Ohma shot a 10-under 206 to finish 2nd, The best finish of her career in a Division I event, followed closely by Sera Hasegawa, who finished tied for 11th with a 7-under 209. Kansas’ Lauren Clark won the event by five shots with a 15-under 201.

Baylor’s 30-under was two shots better than Duke’s 28-under 836.

THE RUNDOWN
Starting with a bogey at the opening hole, Ohma responded with two birdies at Nos. 4 and 7. A bogey at No. 8 saw her make the turn with an even-par 35. Her second nine started with a bang, making a birdie at No. 10 setting the tone for a bogey-free final nine to record the best finish of her career.

Hasegawa also stumbled early with a bogey at No. 3 before bouncing back with three birdies in her next five holes to turn with a 2-under 33. The senior stayed steady on the inward half carding nine pars to close with a third-straight round in red figures.

Bridget Boczar carded her best finish of the young season with a tie for 18th on the heels of a 6-under 210. Starting her day with a bogey, the junior settled in with seven pars and a birdie to turn at even. Her second nine included just one blemish, a bogey at No. 13, to close the event with a 1-over 73.

Malena Castro completed her first 54-hole collegiate event in a tie for 30th after a 3-under 213. Bogeys at Nos. 5 and 6 dropped her over par at the turn. She would recover with birdies at Nos. 12 and 17 ahead of a final bogey at No. 18.

BaiMai Seema came in clutch with a 3-under 69 to help the Bears clinch the two-shot victory. An early birdie pushed Seema under par at No. 2 before giving a shot back with a bogey at No. 5. The senior made the turn in red figures after a birdie at No. 9 and added two more at Nos. 11 and 15 to shoot her best round of the week.

Jenny Lee finished the week in red figures as a 1-under 71 on Monday, which earned her a tie for 36th. Mallory Matthews finished tied for 57th after a 218.

QUOTABLE
Baylor head coach Jay Goble on the team’s bounce-back from Match in the Desert— “Last week caught us off guard a little bit. Not being able to practice the way we wanted to and playing golf very much before the event at Superstition Mountain lit a fire under us. This week, we decided to go out there a day earlier than we had planned to get more reps in, play golf and hit some shots in the warm weather, which was a really good decision. Obviously, we just weren't satisfied with how we played in Arizona. The really cool thing about this team is that they weren't satisfied either. They bought into coming out here early and getting a lot of work done. I couldn't be happier with the buy-in and the desire to not play badly anymore. The bitter disappointment of last week, though, makes this win sweeter.”

Goble on the play of Ohma — “She's swinging at it well. I think she and Maddie [Luitwieler-Caruana] have a good thing going on. Maddie has been walking with her most of the year, and I think they have a really good rapport on the golf course. At the end of the day, she's just making good swings and making good decisions. I think most parts of our game right now are pretty solid. I believe she can continue to tighten up some things around the green, but if she does that, she will be tough to beat moving into postseason for sure.”

Goble on contributions from the whole lineup — “It's a good problem to have, but we have a lot of people playing really good golf right now, so it's, it's fun to watch them go out and make birdies and shoot good scores. Again, From top to bottom, I don't think I've had a deeper team than what I have right now.”
