Baylor MBB Earns Future Bears Day Victory Over Norfolk State 97-67
Bears block 10 shots, most since 2019

WACO, Texas – Baylor men’s basketball earned the Future Bears Day victory over Norfolk State 97-67 on Wednesday afternoon at Foster Pavilion.
The contest between the Bears and Spartans marked the third game this season that the Green and Gold had six players in double-digits with Cameron Carr (19), Obi Agbim (18), Tounde Yessoufou (17), Caden Powell (16), Michael Rataj (11), and Dan Skillings Jr. (11) all earning double-figures.
The Bears’ defense locked down the rim, blocking 10 Spartan shots, the most blocked shots since versus TCU in 2019. Of the 10, four came from Carr, leading the team with a career-high in blocks along with a 9-of-11 stat line from the field. Carr is the first Baylor player to block four shots in a game since Yves Missi versus Iowa State in 2023.
Powell, a Waco, Texas, native, earned a season-high in points along with seven rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot. Agbim additionally tied his season-high with 18 points, reaching four-from-nine from beyond the arc to tie his season-high in three-pointers made and attempted The senior also dished out five assists, the most for Agbim since the first game of the season against UTRGV.
Isaac Williams IV led the Bears in assists earning a season-high seven, helping guide BU to 23 total assists on the day, a season-high for the Bears.
As a team, the Bears had some fun with 11 dunks on the day, coming into the game averaging 2.5 per game.
THE RUNDOWN
The Spartans earned the first basket; however, the Bears quickly responded, going on a 9-0 run in the first four minutes. Norfolk State earned a field goal to end their scoreless run, but a foul from the Spartans brought Skillings Jr. to the line and into the first media timeout.
Norfolk State earned two threes before Rataj made a three-point jumper, bringing the game total to 15-7 Bears.
The two squads went back-and-forth but a dunk from Carr put BU up 24-20 with 10:04 left in the first half.
A block from Carr resulted in a fast break for Yessoufou to earn a dunk, and made the students inside Foster Pavilion electric. The Spartans responded with a jumper; however, Yessoufou made a jumper of his own before Carr earned his third dunk of the game. Agbim continued the momentum with a three-point jumper, bringing the Bears to 33-25 before another media timeout.
Both teams went on a scoreless run for a minute, but it was ended by a Norfolk State fast break. A foul on the Spartans brought Agbim to the line, where he made both of his free throws to bring the score to 36-29 Bears. Another foul from Norfolk State gave Powell a chance at the line, where he went 1-for-2 in his attempts.
A jumper and a made free throw from Carr extended the Bears' run. The Spartans' ninth foul of the half earned Powell another trip to the line, where he made both his attempts to add to the green and gold's 8-0 run.
The Spartans made a jumper to end BU’s run, but Agbim responded with a basket from beyond the arc. A buzzer-beater from Williams ended the first half with Baylor up 47-31.
Coming out of the break, the Bears seized momentum immediately. Agbim knocked down a three to ignite the offense, and moments later Carr finished a fast-break with a powerful dunk, energizing the crowd and stretching the Bears’ lead.
Williams converted a fastbreak layup, but the Spartans answered with four free throws. The Bears quickly regained control, erupting on a 15-3 run over the next four minutes.
A put-back dunk by Carr, a jumper by Skillings Jr., and a three-point jumper by Agbim all added up to the Bears totaling 90 points to NSU’s 51 points with 3:56 minutes left in the game.
Rataj scored two free throws, which NSU responded to with a six-point run. However, the Spartans run wasn’t enough to top the Bears with Baylor earning the victory 97-67 on Future Bears Day.

The Bears continue their home stretch hosting Alcorn State on Friday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m. in Foster Pavilion.
