WACO, Texas – After securing rebound No. 10 with 1:28 left on the game clock, Jana Van Gytenbeek’s triple-double, the first for a Bear since 2022, lifted Baylor to a 90-36 win on Tuesday afternoon inside Foster Pavilion in front of a Future Bears Day crowd of over 3,000 local students.

Van Gytenbeek’s 13-assist, 10-rebound and 10-point showing was just the eighth in program history from the fourth individual, joining Brittney Griner (12/26/09, 2/6/10, 2/10/10, 11/28/10, 3/2/13), Alexis Jones (1/29/17) and Jordan Lewis (1/29/22). It was also just the third triple-double earned with points, rebounds and assists.

Taliah Scott had her fifth career 30-point game, scoring 30 flat, while shooting 7-of-11 from the field, knocking down 5-of-7 from deep and going a perfect 11-of-11 at the free-throw line. She also tallied three assists and a steal as the Bears turned 18 Hornet turnovers into 22 points.

Darianna Littlepage-Buggs notched her fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds, helping Baylor control the glass 55-28 and outscore Alabama State 30-14 in the paint. Kiersten Johnson added 13 points, six rebounds and two assists, while Yuting Deng provided nine points off the bench on 3-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc.

Behind Scott’s early shooting and the Bears’ defensive pressure, Baylor opened on a 9-0 run and forced Alabama State to miss 20 of its first 23 attempts. The Bears led 24-7 after the first quarter and then delivered a game-high 76.9% look in the second quarter, shooting 10-of-13 in the second, to enter halftime up 53-17.

Van Gytenbeek orchestrated the onslaught, finding shooters in rhythm as Baylor drilled 11 total threes on 47.8% shooting from long range. Her 13 assists marked the most by a Baylor player since 2022, and she turned the ball over just three times in 31 minutes.

Baylor’s defense held the Hornets to 25.8% shooting overall and 0-for-5 from the free-throw line. Kaitlyn Bryant led Alabama State (5-10) with 11 points, while Ny’Keria Flowers added six.

The Bears built their largest lead at 56 points in the final minute, finishing with 18 fast-break points, 14 second-chance points and 23 points from the bench.
