WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – No. 6 seed Baylor saw its 2025 season come to a close on Friday night, falling 3-1 to No. 3 seeded Purdue inside Holloway Gymnasium in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.

The home-standing Boilermakers came out firing, controlling the opening frames before the Bears responded with their trademark fight to extend the match and make Purdue earn every point down the stretch.

“We are a hungry team. We wanted it so bad,” junior blocker Victoria Davis said. “Being with this group at this time, we just wanted to get as far as we could and put our all into every single point. That’s what we did in those big moments, and those proved to be good momentum shifts for us.”

Purdue seized early momentum with a dominant 25-16 win in the opening set, hitting .481 with five blocks.

The second set appeared to be headed the same direction when the Bears fell behind 15-7, but Baylor refused to fold. BU clawed back with a 10-4 run, trimming the deficit to 19-17. Purdue closed out the frame, but Baylor’s late surge marked the beginning of a competitive push that would carry into the third.

The Bears found their spark in set three. After trailing by as many as six, Baylor slowly chipped away before unleashing a decisive 5-0 run to flip the scoreboard and take a 22-20 lead. BU held its ground from there, finishing off a gritty 25-23 victory to force a fourth set and energize the green-and-gold contingent inside Holloway.

Set four delivered more of BU’s resolve. Down 16-10, the Bears strung together a 4-0 run to pull within two, but Purdue steadied and closed out the match with a 25-20 win.

Junior Victoria Davis anchored Baylor’s effort with a team-high 13 kills and six blocks, turning in one of the strongest two-way performances of her season. Afterward, Davis praised the team’s resilience.

“That’s just who we are,” she said. “All season, time and time again, we’ve been tested and put in positions where we had to fight back. What we showed in that third set is a representation of who we are and what this team is about.”

For the second straight night, Baylor’s depth shined. Twelve different Bears recorded a kill, block or assist, including Brielle Warren, who tied her career high with nine kills in her return to West Lafayette, where she began her collegiate career.

“Coming back here to Purdue as a newer, better version of myself — somebody I am proud of, somebody who’s worked their butt off, somebody who’s hungry — with this team feels like the most beautiful blessing,” Warren said. “I didn’t even pray for this, I feel like God was working today through this team. It’s an amazing opportunity to be here in Holloway and play as a Baylor Bear.”

Freshman standout Ksenia Rakhmanchik extended her streak to nine straight matches with double-digit kills, while Harley Kreck guided the offense with 25 assists and a team-high 13 digs, securing her seventh double-double of the season.

Baylor concludes it’s 10thstraight NCAA Tournament run with a final record of 18-10, notching 12-plus conference wins for the sixth time in the last seven years.
