WACO, Texas -- While honoring Baylor Athletics Hall of Famer and longtime radio broadcaster J.J. Joe, who passed away on Feb. 25 at the age of 54, BU football will wear a helmet sticker for its matchup vs. No. 11/11 Arizona State on Sept. 20 at McLane Stadium.

Joe passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 25 at the age of 54. A 2006 inductee into the Baylor Athletics Hall of Fame, Joe spent 21 years as the Baylor color analyst for the BU Sports Radio Network, alongside the Voice of the Bears, John Morris, and sideline analyst Ricky Thompson.

A native of Arlington, Texas, Joe starred for the Bears from 1990-93, ending his career as the record holder in every Baylor passing record category. He led the Bears to consecutive bowl games in 1991 and 1992 and was a four-year starter.

“J.J. was as close as a brother to me, and I know so many people who feel the same way,” Morris said. “From his time as a student-athlete here at Baylor through his 21 years working with us on the radio broadcasts, there was an endearing quality about J.J. that made him a fan favorite and a welcome part of a Baylor Football Gameday. Our prayers of love and support continue for his wife, Lakeesha, and their family.”

The Baylor Black Alumni Alliance will host its annual Reunion Weekend Sept. 19-21<https://alumni.web.baylor.edu/alumni-events/bbaa-reunion-weekend#schedule>, and will have its Achievement Awards Reception, Ceremony and Dinner on Sept. 19 at 5:15 p.m., featuring the Joe family.
