FORT WORTH, Texas – Baylor baseball fell 8-4 in game two of its weekend series at No. 23 TCU Saturday afternoon at Lupton Stadium in Fort Worth.
The Bears (26-16, 8-12) struggled early and couldn’t overcome back-to-back three spots from the Frogs’ (31-12, 14-6) offense in the fourth and fifth innings. TCU was led by starter Cademon Parker’s longest outing of the season, as he went six innings and allowed just two hits and one earned run while punching out four.
For BU at the plate, redshirt senior designated hitter Hunter Simmons tallied his seventh multi-RBI performance of the year and freshman infielder Pearson Riebock recorded his ninth game this season with each a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Redshirt sophomore southpaw Caleb Jameson was sharp on the mound in his two-inning relief appearance, fanning three for his second multi-strikeout outing of the year.
THE RUNDOWN
Freshman lefty Carson Bailey made his 11th start of the season and despite some early traffic, induced a ground ball double play thanks to a nifty glove flip from redshirt sophomore infielder Travis Sanders that kept the Frogs off the board in the first.
However, TCU opened the scoring in the bottom of the second, capitalizing on a BU error to advance a runner into scoring position that later scored on a sacrifice fly. Bailey continued to pitch well in high-leverage situations, drawing weak contact in another bases-loaded jam and got the Bears out of the third inning unscathed, stranding five Frogs on base through three innings.
TCU increased its lead in the bottom of the fourth, sending a solo home run over the left-field wall. Later in the inning, the Frogs added two more on a wild pitch and an infield single to lead 4-0 into the fifth.
That’s when BU got on the board, as Riebock crossed the plate on a wild pitch, but TCU responded with another three spot thanks to a pair of RBI singles to swell the lead back up to 7-1.
Jameson came on to start the back half of the sixth and retired four of the first five batters he faced and finished his outing with three strikeouts in two scoreless innings, keeping the Bears within six.
Baylor put up three runs in the top of the eighth thanks to a two-run double by Simmons and a run-scoring flare shot by Riebock to make it 7-4. However, TCU added an insurance run in the home half with an RBI double to move the gap back to four.
BU was unable to complete a comeback effort, as TCU reliever Louis Rodriguez struck out the side in the ninth to seal the 8-4 victory and clinch the series.

On looking ahead to the series finale…
“It’s huge. We have 10 games left in conference play, and every one of them is big and every one of them counts. There’s just no ands, ifs or buts about it. It’s the most important game of the year for us, and we need to try and get a win here, salvage the series, then try to see if we can pick it up when we get back home next week.”
