HOCKLEY, Texas — Needing a solo 11th-place finish or better to advance to the postseason, Baylor women’s golf finished 11th at the Big 12 Championship on Thursday at Houston Oaks.
Spending most of its second-nine on either side of the bubble, Baylor played its final four holes at 2-over as a team to finish two shots ahead of 12th place Texas Tech. Arizona won the team title in a playoff over Arizona State and Oklahoma State.
Kansas State’s Sophie Bert captured individual medalist honors with a 2-under 211, the only player in red figures after 54 holes. In her final Big 12 Championship, BaiMai Seema paced the Bears with an 11-over 224.
THE RUNDOWN
Seema got off to a good start with five straight pars before hitting a bogey-birdie-bogey stretch at Nos. 15-17 to turn at 1-over. Another four-hole stretch on the second nine cost her three shots with bogeys at Nos. 3, 4 and 6. For the second straight day, Seema carded a birdie at the final hole of the day, accounting for two of the 15 birdies at No. 9 all week.
Ashleen Kaur wrapped up her championship in a tie for 40th on the heels of a 5-over 76. The sophomore dropped five shots on the front nine after a double bogey at No. 10 and bogeys at Nos. 12, 14 and 16. The Houston native bounced back with back-to-back birdies at Nos. 1 and 2 ahead of a bogey at No. 3. Her final birdie of the round came at No. 4 and was followed by two more bogeys at Nos. 8 and 9.
Sera Hasegawa also finished tied for 40th. Following a birdie at No. 1, Hasegawa struggled to close her outward nine with bogeys at Nos. 13 and 14 and double bogeys at Nos. 15 and 18 to turn in 41. A bogey at No. 2 preceded back-to-back birdies at Nos. 4 and 5 to get back on track before bogeys at Nos. 7 and 9 bookended a birdie at No. 8 to close out her 76.
Silje Ohma also shot a 76 on Thursday to finish tied for 45th. A rough start saw her play the first six holes at 5-over, thanks to a triple-bogey at No. 11 and bogeys at Nos. 12, 14 and 15 around a birdie at No. 13. The junior responded nicely with a clean card the rest of the way, making 12-straight pars on a difficult day.
Malena Castro wrapped her Big 12 championship debut with a 7-over 78. The freshman got off to a steady start with a 2-over outward nine, with bogeys at Nos. 14 and 15 as the only blemishes. She fought back with a birdie at No. 1 to get to 1-over but finished with six bogeys on the final eight holes.

STAT OF THE DAY
.500 — Baylor finished the regular season with a 67-67-3 record making them eligible for the postseason
QUOTABLE
Jay Goble on the team’s resilience to make the NCAA regional field — “Obviously, we did not come here to finish 11th; at the same time, we had a job to do, and we got that job done. It was close on the second nine, but we ground our way around and found a way to get it done and get into the NCAA postseason. We used the entire team we brought here, and everyone contributed at some point, which was good to see. Now, we can truly wipe the slate clean and get a fresh start to try and make it back to La Costa and accomplish everything we set out to do this season.”
WHAT’S NEXT
BU will learn its postseason road map next Wednesday with the NCAA Women's Golf Selection show, which will begin at 12 p.m. CT and be televised on Golf Channel.
