WACO, Texas – Baylor women’s basketball head coach Nicki Collen announced the addition of Oklahoma transfer Kiersten Johnson on Monday morning.



“We are excited to welcome Kiersten to the Baylor Family,” said Collen. “KJ will be a great fit in our up-tempo offensive and defensive styles. She is an elite rim-running post player with guard skills that will stretch defenses to the arc. At 6-4, KJ is incredibly long and athletic and can defend multiple positions for us. She is a winner, having had success at Duncanville High School and with the Oklahoma Sooners. She is battle-tested in both the Big 12 and SEC and will have the opportunity to showcase her skills in our system in a way she hasn’t thus far in her career. Our fans will love the energy she brings to the court and the way she engages off the court.”



The 6-foot-4 forward spent three seasons with the Sooners, playing in 30 games her junior season, averaging 2.3 points off the bench in 6.6 minutes on the court. Scoring a season-high 12 points in the 111-65 victory over Omaha in December, Johnson added four rebounds, three assists and two blocks against the Mavericks.



As a sophomore, Johnson averaged career highs of 5.4 points and 3.2 rebounds in 33 games, with a career-best outing against Baylor for the lone 20-point game of her career off eight field goals and four free throws. She also had double-digit scoring games that season against Alabama State and TCU.



As a freshman, Johnson’s debut came against Oral Roberts with a nine-point, two-rebound game. That season, she saw an average of 3.0 points in 9.2 minutes in 25 games.



Johnson assisted Oklahoma to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Sweet 16 this season after opening the first and second rounds in Norman.



A four-star recruit that was ranked as the No. 24 forward in the country in the 2022 class by ESPN, Johnson averaged 7.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks combined over her junior and senior seasons at Duncanville (Texas) High School. She was also part of the ProSkills Texas EYBL team that sent seven players to Division I basketball programs in 2022.



The 2024-25 Baylor squad finished the season with a 28-8 record while matching Collen's best Big 12 record at 15-3. BU finished second in the Big 12 regular season, advanced to its 16th Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship final and hosted the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament for the 11th time in program history.
