BRYAN, Texas — On a day when the scoring average bumped above 81, Baylor women's golf battled to a tie for fifth with a 44-over 620 Monday at Traditions Golf Club.

Baylor’s BaiMai Seema led the Bears with a 9-over 153 to wrap the day in eighth place, while Silje Ohma was a shot behind her in a tie for ninth. Playing as an individual, Bridget Boczar shot one of six rounds at par or better with an opening-round 72. Cayetana Fernandez and Yvonne Chamness of Texas A&M share the individual overnight lead.

As a team, the Aggies shot a 23-over 599, leading Abilene Christian by 15 shots entering the final round. The Bears are one of six teams, all within nine shots of each other, ranging from second to seventh place.

THE RUNDOWN
Round One
BaiMai Seema tied for BU’s best score with a 4-over 76. The senior tripped up with a double bogey at No. 4 but closed the front nine strong with a birdie at No. 8 and a bogey at No. 9 for a 2-over 38. Three more pars dotted her card to start the second nine before another double-bogey cost her two shots at No. 13. Again, she recovered to play her final five holes at even after a birdie at No. 15 and a bogey at No. 16.

Malena Castro put together a solid showing with a 76 of her own. Starting on No. 2, the freshman stumbled a bit on her outward nine with bogeys at Nos. 2, 3 and 7, followed by a double-bogey at No. 10 to turn at 5-over. Castro responded, though, playing her second nine at 1-under, thanks to birdies at Nos. 11, 14 and 15 around just two bogeys at Nos. 12 and 16.

Silje Ohma finished the first round with a 5-over 77. The junior put together a strong opening nine with nine straight pars to turn at even. Her inward half started with three straight bogeys at Nos. 12-14, battling back to 1-over with birdies at Nos. 15 and 18. Her final two holes cost her four shots with a bogey at No. 1 and a triple-bogey at No. 2.

Sera Hasegawa finished Monday morning with a 6-over 78. The senior made four bogeys on her first nine holes of the day at Nos. 4, 6, 7 and 11. She added two more at Nos. 12 and 17 to get to 6-over before her first birdie of the day at No. 18. One final bogey at No. 1 moved her back to 6-over for the round, where she finished.

Ashleen Kaur also recorded a 78 of her own in the first round. Similar to Ohma, Kaur stood her ground with eight pars and bogey on her first nine to move into the top 10. However, a 5-over stretch over her next three holes cost her as she fell to 6-over for the round. She recovered to play her final five holes at even par after a birdie at No. 15 and a bogey at No. 16.

Second Round
Seema stayed on a roll in the afternoon, shooting a 5-over 77 to finish the day in eighth place. A bogey-birdie-bogey start had her at 1-over through three holes, adding another bogey at No. 9 to make the turn at 2-over. She bounced back with her second birdie of the day at No. 10, but added a bogey at No. 11, a double-bogey at No. 12 and a bogey at No. 17 to fall back to 5-over on the round, where she would finish.

Ohma stacked up a second-straight 77 to move inside the top 10 in a tie for ninth. A birdie on her opening hole of the round at No. 3 got her off to a good start before she gave back three shots on her first nine with a bogey at No. 7 and a double-bogey at No. 8. Bogeys at Nos. 13, 16 and 2 dotted her card around six pars on the homeward half.

Ashleen Kaur picked up a shot from the first round, firing a 5-over 77 in the afternoon to finish tied for 12th. On the heels of 7-straight pars to open her round, Kaur made back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 8 and 9 to make the turn at 2-over. A third-straight bogey came at No. 10 before adding two more at Nos. 15 and 16 to finish out the day.

Boczar shot an 11-over 83 in the second round to finish the day tied for 12th, playing as an individual.

Sera Hasegawa finished Monday in a tie for 38th after a 10-over 82 in the second round. The senior played her opening nine at 7-over par but closed with just three more bogeys on her inward half at Nos. 14, 18 and 1.

Malena Castro finished tied for 47th on the heels of a 15-over 87 on Tuesday afternoon.
