WACO, Texas – Baylor men's basketball signed its third transfer this week, as former Nebraska Omaha guard JJ White put pen to paper on Thursday.
A native of Norman, Okla., White spent three years at Omaha, starting 74 of 98 games for the Mavericks, highlighted by a Summit League title and an NCAA Tournament berth in 2024-25. Head coach Scott Drew has a history of success with point guards, and he feels that White can be the next transfer guard to make an impact on the Bears.
"JJ is a player who can affect the game in a variety of different ways," Drew said. "He has proven that leading the Summit League in assists and finishing top 15 in scoring last year, so he is a great fit for our roster in 2025-26.”
Not only did the All-Summit League first-teamer lead the league in assists last year, he also finished second with a 2.2 assist-turnover ratio. He averaged 13.7 points, 4.0 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game for the year, shooting 49% from the field and 44% from three-point range.
Finishing the year with 14 games of 15+ points, White saved some of his biggest games for the biggest moments, highlighted by a 29-point, five-assist performance in the Summitt League title game to punch Omaha's ticket to the big dance.
As a junior, he averaged 8.5 points and a team-leading 2.9 assists per game, which was eighth-best in the conference. In total, he notched 13 double-digit scoring games, including a season-high 19 vs. North Dakota State.
White burst onto the scene as a junior-college transfer in 2022-23, notching 9.0 points and 4.0 assists per contest, which was third-best in the Summit League, while his 1.7 assist-turnover ratio was fourth-best.
In his one season at Colby Community College, White averaged 14.9 points per game on 39.7% shooting and 34% from beyond the arc. Additionally, he averaged 3.6 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals per contest in 25 games.
