WACO, Texas -- Recognizing the critical need to maintain a competitive edge in the ever-shifting landscape of college athletics, Baylor football has established a professionalized model for talent acquisition and retention. This adaptation, driven by the dynamic changes shaping the sport, includes the promotion of Aaron Hunt to General Manager, and the addition of Anthony Mauro and Joe Reynolds, as announced by Coach Dave Aranda on Wednesday.
Hunt has been elevated to Baylor football General Manager, after previously serving as the Associate AD of Player Personnel. The Bears are also adding Mauro as Assistant General Manager, after previously serving as player personnel coordinator at Georgia. BU also welcomes Reynolds as the associate director of player personnel, with a specific focus on transfer portal management.
These appointments build upon the foundation laid by long time Baylor administrator David Kaye's promotion to NIL General Manager last May.
"This strategic restructuring marks a pivotal moment for Baylor Football, positioning us at the forefront of collegiate athletics' evolving landscape. We're not just adapting; we're forging a new path for Baylor Football,” Baylor Deputy AD Jovan Overshown, the sport program administrator for BU football, said. "The impact of David Kaye on our talent acquisition has been nothing short of transformative and this is the next step in those efforts. This new model, a collaborative vision with Dave (Aranda) and Mack (Rhoades) empowers us to construct, maintain, and recruit talent with unprecedented efficiency. Aaron’s established presence in our community, the state of Texas and in our industry coupled with the deep expertise of Anthony Mauro and the focused role of Joe Reynolds, signifies our commitment to building a powerhouse program.”
Hunt is a five-year member of Aranda’s staff at Baylor, and has served as the Associate AD for Player Personnel in 2024, which followed time as a recruiting and personnel assistant early in his time at BU. A former All-America defensive lineman at Texas Tech, Hunt set the Red Raiders program standard for career sacks (34), before a 10-year professional career that featured six all-star appearances in the CFL.
Mauro spent the 2024 season as the Georgia player personnel coordinator, after serving two seasons as the Director of Player Personnel at Louisiana Tech, his second stint at Tech after serving as assistant director of recruiting from 2021-22. He previously helped manage Fresno State’s recruiting efforts in 2022, specializing in the transfer portal, and was the assistant linebacker’s coach at McNeese from 2019-21, which followed time working with Iowa as an undergraduate assistant.
Reynolds comes to the Bears after serving as the prospect analyst at Oklahoma State. He will serve as associate director of player personnel and will help direct transfer portal management.
