Bears take the match in four from the Bows

WACO, Texas – The 20th-ranked Baylor volleyball team brought home the victory against Hawai’i on Saturday night at the Ferrell Center, 3-1.
The Bears (8-3) secured the win in four sets over the Rainbow Wahine (6-4). Winning the first set 25-14, followed by a Hawai’i win 25-21, Baylor retaliated with a third set victory 25-14, and took the match win 25-17 in the fourth set.
THE RUNDOWN
Set 1
The Bears came out ready to fight with a kill from Alicia Andrews and went on a three-point run right off the bat. Elise McGhee continued the momentum with another kill, pushing Baylor to 4-2. Kendal Murphy also brought the heat with a kill, moving the score to 6-5 Bears. Hawai’i couldn't stop Andrew’s lethal kill followed by McGhee’s ace, bringing the score to 11-10 Bears. Allie Sczech turned on the jets with a block and then a kill, moving the score to 14-12 Bears. Murphy didn’t let up with another great kill and another point for Baylor. After a timeout, Jackie Barrett Frazier kept things moving with a kill, pushing Baylor to 17-12. A Manuela Bibinbe kill continued the five-point streak. Bibinbe wasn’t done yet though, she kept it going with a block alongside Barrett Frazier bringing the score to 21-14 Bears. A kill by McGhee brought the Bears to setpoint and then a set win closing at 25-14.
Set 2
Baylor came into the second set ready to dominate again with the first set point by McGhee. Murphy retaliated to UH’s lead with a kill bringing the score to 4-3 Hawai’i. Bibinbe kept fighting with a powerful kill raising the score to 5-4, Bows. Murphy brought the heat with two service aces that broke the tie, bringing Baylor to 8-6. A kill by McGhee pushed back against Hawaii’s 3-point streak, moving the score to 12-10 Hawaii. Murphy added another kill to her resume fighting for Baylor at 14-12 Hawaii. Sczech and Bibinbe continued the kills as the teams went back and forth, pulling the set to 16-14 Hawaii. Bibinbe couldn’t stop as she scored another kill and ace, closing the gap to 17-16 Hawaii. A kill by Andrew and an ace by Barrett Frazier moved the set into an intense tie at 18-18. Murphy kept Baylor alive with a kill, moving the set to 22-20 Hawaii. The set was closed in favor of Hawaii at 25-21.
Set 3
Entering the third set tied 1-1, the Bears got the first point with a kill by McGhee. McGhee continued that momentum with yet another kill and Szcech continued the streak. McGhee wasn’t done though as she scored an ace, bringing the score to 4-1 Bears. Murphy was in it to win it with three back-to-back kills, pushing Baylor to 8-3, causing the Bows to call a timeout. A block by Bibinbe and McGhee propelled the Bears forward to 10-5. McGhee then brought home back-to-back kills. Andrew jumped in with a kill, pushing Baylor to 14-9. Sczech continued the fight with a kill, moving the score to 15-10 Bears. Murphy decided she wasn’t done yet as she collected another back-to-back kills this set. In addition to errors on Hawaii’s side, this brought Baylor on an 8-1 scoring run all the way to set point. A kill by McGhee brought home the win in set 3 with a score of 25-14.
Set 4
Baylor coming in hot after their set win scored the first two points in the 4th with a Bibinbe ace and McGhee kill. Andrew decided to jump in on the back-to-back kills train, pushing Baylor to 4-1. Murphy pulled through on yet another kill, bringing Baylor to 8-3. McGhee returned a few Hawaii points with a powerful kill, pushing the score to 12-8 Baylor. Andrew continued bringing in the kills and the points, setting Baylor up at 14-10. A block by Bibinbe moves the set to 17-15 Baylor. Tehani Ulufatu brought an incredible ace down on Hawaii. Bibinbe comes back with another block alongside Murphy pushing the score to 19-15. Murphy stays hot with two kills, moving Baylor to 21-16. Bibinbe is still not done as she makes another block alongside McGhee, then conquers a solo block, helping Baylor get to 23-16. Bibinbe then brings the set to match point as she makes a kill. The crowd erupted as Baylor took the match win after a kill by McGhee to seal the deal at 25-17.

• Alicia Andrew led with the highest hitting percentage at .562
