Baylor MGOLF Finishes Eighth at the Clerico
BU’s Appel closes the fall slate with a career-best finish

TULSA, Okla. — Jonas Appel led Baylor men’s golf to an eighth-place finish at the Clerico on Tuesday at Cedar Oaks Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.

In a week where just one player finished under par, Appel shot a 3-over 213 to finish tied for fifth, the best finish of his career. His previous best was a tie for seventh at the Trinity Forest Invitational in 2022. Vincent Stjernfeldt also carded his career-best finish with a tie for 17th. Northwestern's Cameron Adam was the lone player in red figures, carding a 3-under 207 to capture individual medalist honors.

The Bears shot a 36-over 876, while the Wildcats claimed the team title with a 12-over 852, eight strokes ahead of host Oral Roberts.

THE RUNDOWN
Appel shot a 4-over 74 in the final round. Starting at No. 8, the junior played his first 11 holes at 2-under after birdies at Nos. 12 and 15. On a day where the stroke average soared north of 74.5, Appel played his final seven holes at 6-over.

Stjernfeldt finished the tournament tied for 17th after a 2-over 72 on Tuesday. In his final round, he sandwiched birdies at Nos. 12 and 15 around bogeys at Nos. 11, 16 and 17 for a 1-over 36 on his opening nine. His back nine started out strong with a birdie before closing with bogeys at Nos. 3 and 7.

Sam Dossey tied for 38th on the heels of an 8-over 78 in the final round. Dossey made 10 bogeys with two birdies at Nos. 15 and 7 to close the event.

Zach Heffernan ended his week in a tie for 45th. The senior landed a pair of birdies on the front nine but had a pair of bogeys to make the turn at even. On the back nine, the senior made back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 2 and 3 before finishing with a birdie at No. 5.

Corbin Null came in 69th in his debut in the Baylor lineup. With four bogeys in his first eight holes, Null bounced back with a pair of birdies on Nos. 1 and 2. He finished the week with three bogeys at Nos. 3, 9 and 10 to shoot 5-over 75 to close out the event.

HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Jonas Appel’s fifth-place finish is the best of his career.
  *   Appel tied for the fourth-best par-4 scoring average (3.97).
  *   Appel tied for the eighth-most pars for the event (36).
  *   Vincent Stjernfeldt finished tied for 17th, his career-best finish.
  *   Stjernfeldt tied for the fourth-best par-3 scoring average (3.00)
  *   Sam Dossey tied for the third-best par-5 scoring average (4.83).
