OMAHA, Neb. – Baylor football return specialists Jamaal Bell and Josh Cameron have been named to the Jet Award Midseason Watch List, as announced by the Jet Award Foundation.
The award, which recognizes college football’s most outstanding return specialist, included 15 players from across the country on its midseason watch list. Baylor is the only school represented on the list by multiple players.
Named in honor of Heisman Trophy winner and college football Hall of Famer Johnny “The Jet” Rodgers, the Jet Award is presented annually to the nation’s top kickoff or punt returner as selected by a distinguished panel of voters, including media members from the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), former winners of the Jet Award and two of the founders of the honor.
This year’s award will be presented at the Jet Award Gala on April 10, 2025.
Bell, a fifth-year senior transfer from Nevada, ranks fifth nationally with an average of 28.2 yards per kick return. The speedster has returned nine kicks for a total of 254 yards, including a 100-yard return for a touchdown at Colorado in Week Four. Eight of his nine attempts have gone for at least 16 yards, including all four of his returns vs. BYU in Week Five. Bell is one of 18 players in the country with a kick return touchdown so far in 2024.
A breakout star for the Bears this season at both wide receiver and punt returner, Cameron leads the country with 248 return yards and a 22.5 yards per punt return average. He has returned 11 punts this season, with seven attempts going for at least 17 yards. The native of Cedar Park, Texas, had a season- and career-long 73-yard return to inside the one-yard line at Texas Tech in Week Eight, helping him to honorable mention status on the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award’s players of the week list.
