No. 9 Baylor EQ Falls to No. 5 SMU on the Road

DALLAS, Texas – The ninth-ranked Baylor Equestrian team fell to No. 5 SMU in Dallas at the Dallas Equestrian Center on Saturday, 15-3.
The Bears (1-3, 1-2 Big 12) couldn’t catch a break against the Mustangs (3-3), with SMU winning each event.
THE RUNDOWN
Starting off the meet in Fences, Annie Vorhies scored a 79 to start off the rides, but was eventually upended by SMU’s 90. Juliette Earley went up against an 84 but came up just short with an 82, the point going to the Mustangs. Emma Covarrubias earned the Bears’ first point of the day with an 85 against SMU’s 76. Lauren Reid had a 78 but fell to a Mustang 82. Finishing out the event was Lauren Jorgensen, who earned her point with a 77-75 decision. Overall, SMU took the event, 3-2.
In Horsemanship, the Bears were close in every decision. Taylor Smith fell by half a point, 75-74.5 and Alexis Rutledge was downed by two, 77-75. Gianna Pozzi tied her Mustang opponent at 73.5. Anna Thron came up short by two, 75-73, and Nadalee Vasquez scored a 72.5 against SMU’s 75. The Mustangs took the event, 4-0.
At the half, the Bears were down 7-2 headed into Flat and Reining.
On the Flat, Reid rode against an 85 and came up just short with a score of 79. Earley scored a 74 against SMU’s 78, while Jorgensen earned a 74 against a Mustang 85. Lauren Stebbins had a tie with her opponent, both scoring an 80, before Madison Mitchell had a score of 84 to win the lone Baylor point, downing a 74. SMU took the event, 3-1.
In Reining, Kalena Reynolds scored a 67 but the Mustangs bested it with a 71, while Riley Cachat rode to a score of 0. Isabella Hehr scored a 67.5 against SMU’s 71, SMU’s point. Sadie Peters fell behind by a point to her opponent, 71-70. Emily Moomaw brought up the rear but scored a 0 against SMU’s 67.5, the Mustangs winning the event, 5-0.
