WACO, Texas – With returners Darianna Littlepage-Buggs and Bella Fontleroy combining for 41 points, the 12th-ranked Baylor women blew out Langston, 100-39, in Sunday’s exhibition game at the Foster Pavilion.

Littlepage-Buggs recorded a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds, with Fontleroy scoring all 16 of her points in the last three quarters after a scoreless first period. Three other players scored in double figures, including Colorado transfer Aaronette Vonleh with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting.

“I thought Buggs was a rock star all night long,” said fourth-year head coach Nicki Collen. “Bella, we used to call her Fourth-Quarter Fontleroy. She tends to work her way into a game and get better as the game goes along. And I thought that’s what happened tonight. She was where she was supposed to be, she defended, she rebounded, she took charges, as usual. I thought those two set the tone for us.”

The Bears opened the game on an 11-0 run that included a three-point play by Vonleh and a knock-down trey by Sarah Andrews, who finished with eight points, seven rebounds and three assists. Langston trailed 17-2 at the media timeout and was down 27-6 after the first quarter.

Hitting six of her first seven shots, Littlepage-Buggs scored 15 of her game-high 25 points in the first half and was actually outscoring the Lady Lions with Baylor up 50-13 at the break.

With the crowd chanting, “We want 100,” the Bears obliged when freshman Kayla Nelms converted a three-point play with a bucket and free throw with 1:17 left for the game’s final points. Guards Jana Van Gytenbeek and Jada Walker had 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Nelms and Yaya Fielder chipped in with seven points apiece.

Koreea Kirksey led Langston with 13 points but also had four of the Lady Lions’ 27 turnovers. Baylor shot 58.8% from the floor, including 35% from outside the arc.

Coming off a 26-8 season and the program’s first Sweet 16 in three years, Baylor will open the regular season against Incarnate Word at 7 p.m. Thursday before a showdown with Oregon at 9 p.m. CT next Sunday in Eugene.
