CARLSBAD, Calif. — On the strength of a strong showing by BaiMai Seema and Sera Hasegawa, Baylor women’s golf shot a 7-over 295 and pulled into a tie for 22nd in the second round of the NCAA Championship Saturday at La Costa.
With her 2-under 70, Seema is leading the charge for the Bears, in a tie for 29th, while Hasegawa used a 70 of her own to move up 66 spots on Saturday and into a tie for 50th. Seema enters the third round eight shots behind the 36-hole leader, Texas A&M’s Adela Cernousek and her 8-under 136.
Tied for the third-best round of the afternoon wave, BU sits at 19-over 595, eight shots outside the current cutline occupied by Wake Forest and Arizona State with 11-over 587s. Texas A&M shot one of just seven under-par team rounds on the day to take the lead at 11-under 265.

A final bogey on her outward nine dropped her back to 1-under at the turn. The Houston, Texas, native played the first six holes of the second nine at 5-over after a double bogey at No. 2 between bogeys at Nos. 1 and 6 but closed with three-straight pars.

QUOTABLE:
Head coach Jay Goble on the team’s performance in the second round— “I saw a lot of fight. I saw a lot of great golf. What BaiMai and Sera did today was really impressive. I mean, it was not easy this afternoon. We had a lot more wind when we teed off, and for them to come out here and shoot under par was pretty awesome.”
Goble on the outlook for the third round on Sunday — “We’re going need to continue to creep up that leaderboard. We need to gain a few shots tomorrow afternoon and move into that top 15, and we know that anything's possible on Monday. If we can have another great round on Monday, we have a chance to move down into that top eight. But the top of the priority list right now is getting some rest and getting ready for another afternoon tee time on Sunday.”
WHAT’S NEXT
The Bears will play alongside Vanderbilt and Ole Miss, with tee times beginning at 2:55 p.m. CT. The top-15 teams will advance to Monday’s final stroke-play round.
