WACO, Texas -- Baylor women’s tennis has signed former Purdue standout Kennedy Gibbs for the 2024-25 season, it was announced by head coach Joey Scrivano on Friday.



A native of Houston, Gibbs has been a fixture in the lineup for the Boilermakers for the last two seasons. She is coming off a season where she went 22-5 in singles, including an 11-4 mark in the spring, playing time at No. 2 and No. 3. In doubles as a sophomore, Gibbs went a team-leading 21-13, including club highs in dual-match wins (13) and Big Ten wins (seven), playing primarily on courts 1 and 2.



“We are thrilled to welcome Kennedy to our Baylor family,” Scrivano said. “Her impressive record, strong character and tenacity on the court make her a perfect fit for our team. Kennedy's work ethic and passion for the game will undoubtedly contribute to our program's success. We can't wait to see her compete in the green and gold."



Gibbs won 17 singles matches as a freshman in 2022-23, including 13 in the spring and five in Big Ten play. In doubles as a rookie, she went 17-13, including 12-6 in the spring. She opened her collegiate career with 10 wins in her first 12 singles matches.



As a prep standout, Gibbs had an ITF career-high ranking of No. 247. She appeared in seven quarterfinals, three semifinals and three finals in ITF singles tournaments, playing in 10 quarterfinals, seven semifinals and two finals in ITF doubles events. She swept the J3 San Jose ITF Tournament in singles and doubles in 2022 in Costa Rica and won the singles flight at the 2021 L3 Open in Tucson, Ariz.



Gibbs, who was born in Cleveland, Ohio, is a former five-star recruit who Tennis Recruiting Network ranked as the 34th best prospect in the nation in her class. She owned a USTA ranking of No. 294 and an ITF Junior ranking of No. 35. She was the third-best recruit in Texas in the 2022-23 class.
