LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Baylor women’s golf finished strong for a second-straight day to remain in fifth place following Tuesday’s second round of the NCAA Las Vegas Regional at Spanish Trail Country Club.
Starting on the second nine, BU struggled early with a 3-over 147 through nine holes, but rebounded with a 5-under 139 on its inward half, adding to its two-round total of 2-over 578. With the top five teams advancing after Wednesday’s final round, the Bears hold the fifth and final spot with 18 holes to play. The Bears hold with a one-shot cushion on sixth-place Oklahoma and a three-shot lead on seventh-place Arizona.
Three Bears recorded rounds in red figures individually as Sera Hasegawa, Rosie Belsham and Ashleen Kaur carded 1-under 71s. Hasegawa leads the pack of Bears, tied for 10th with a 2-under 142, with Kaur and Belsham tied for 17th and 25th, respectively. With a 10-under 134, Lottie Woad of Florida State continues to lead by a shot over Arkansas’ Kajal Mistry.
THE RUNDOWN
Hasegawa started strong with a birdie on the opening hole at No. 10 before three straight bogeys befell her at Nos. 11, 12 and 13. The junior rebounded with a birdie at No. 14 to make the turn with a 1-over 37. Hasegawa carded four birdies on the back nine at Nos. 1, 2, 6 and 8 around a double-bogey at No. 5, the lone blemish in a second-nine 34.
Kaur carded her career-best NCAA postseason round with a 71 on Tuesday to tie for 17th. After a birdie to start the day at No. 10, Kaur made back-to-back bogeys for a 1-over 37 on her outward nine. She got back to level par with a birdie at No. 1 and climbed back into red figures, where she would stay, with a birdie at No. 8.
Belsham also shot a 71, jumping 19 spots in the process into a tie for 25th. The senior started strong with a couple of birdies at Nos. 10 and 13 but gave them back with a double bogey at No. 16. She rebounded with seven-straight pars and a birdie at No. 6. A final bogey at No. 7 put her back at even par, but only momentarily as she birdied No. 8 to finish the round in the red.
BaiMai Seema carded her career-best NCAA round for the second-straight day with a 1-over 73 and sits tied for 25th. The junior bogeyed her second hole of the day but responded with 16 straight pars to finish the round at 1-over and 3-over for the championship.
Silje Ohma shot a 5-over 77 and settled into a tie for 47th on Tuesday. After bogeys at Nos. 10 and 11 to start the round, Ohma added another at No. 16 before her first birdie at No. 17. A double-bogey seven cost her two more shots at the turn. With bogeys at Nos. 5 and 8, the sophomore closed the day with a birdie at No. 9.

QUOTABLE:
Head coach Jay Goble — “We've obviously had a little bit of trouble getting off to a good start, but we've rebounded, and I think that's what good teams do, they figure it out and respond. I'm really happy how they've played our second nines each of the last few days. It's pretty cool that it has been on two separate nines, so essentially, we have played both nines well; they've just been at different parts of our rounds. I'm glad we persevered and found a way to shoot some good numbers and play well on the back.”
Goble entering the final round — “I think tomorrow's going to be windy and a little bit more challenging, so it's going to be a grind out here. Especially when you consider it's the third round and final round of regionals. It's going to be a tough day, but we're going to work on some things, get some rest and get ready for our big day tomorrow.”
