LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Baylor women’s golf begins its march towards a fourth-straight NCAA Championship, opening play as a No. 7 seed in the NCAA Las Vegas Regional on Monday morning when the Bears tee it up Spanish Trail Country Club.
The top five teams will advance from each of the six regional sites across the country to the NCAA Championship at the Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, Calif. With his team playing its best golf of the season and three players having experienced postseason success, head coach Jay Goble is confident about his squad as they head to the Silver State.
“I think all of it is to our advantage,” he said. “This team is comfortable in their own skin, and that's part of playing good golf. We’ve played in a bunch of golf tournaments and know the only things you can control are the things you can control. They're going to take care of their own business, and by doing that, I feel like our team is going to do well.”
Sera Hasegawa will play at No. 1 this week, fresh off a tie for eighth at the Big 12 Championship. The junior played like a seasoned veteran in her NCAA regional debut last season, shooting three-straight 68s en route to a tie for sixth in Pullman, Washington, last year.
Rosie Belsham will make her third and final appearance in an NCAA regional when she tees it up at No. 2. The senior has six rounds at par or better in six-career regional rounds and finished tied for second at the Stillwater Regional in 2022.
Silje Ohma will get the nod at No. 3 in Las Vegas. The sophomore is coming off her best performance of the season, a tie for 12th at the Big 12 Championship. In her postseason debut last year at the Pullman Regional, Ohma improved each round, highlighted by a final-round 69 and a tie for 26th.
Ashleen Kaur will play at No. 4 this week. The freshman has finished outside the top-25 just three times this season while leading the team in below-par percentage (19.1%) and total birdies (89).
BaiMai Seema has started in the lineup in each of the last four events and will make her NCAA Regional debut at the No. 5 spot. While she has not played in a regional, the junior has postseason playing experience, appearing in the last two NCAA Championships.
Yoonjeong Huh will serve as Baylor’s alternate at the NCAA Regional. The freshman has made seven starts this season and came off the bench in the final round of the Big 12 Championship, shooting a 4-over 76.
