WACO, Texas – Baylor women’s golf head coach Jay Goble announced the addition of assistant coach Maddie Luitwieler-Caruana to his staff on Thursday.
The Katy, Texas, native joins Goble’s staff after a season as the director of operations and assistant coach for the 2024 Big 12 Champion Texas Longhorns. BU’s head coach has been familiar with Luitwieler-Caruana dating back to her time at Cinco Ranch High School, and he is thrilled to be able to bring her to Waco.
"I’m very happy and excited to add Maddie to our staff,” he said. “I recruited her 10 years ago to play for me at Baylor, and even though she chose to play at a school a little bit south of us on IH-35, we have remained friends. She did an amazing job walking with her players last year, and I am confident her golf knowledge and outgoing personality will be a great asset to our team moving forward.”
A 2019 sports management graduate from Texas, Luitwieler-Caruana played professionally on the Epson and Women’s All-Pro Tours. She made six starts on the Epson Tour in 2021 after a very successful debut season on the Women’s All-Pro Tour in 2020.
Finishing tied for 14th in her second event as a pro, she closed the season strong with top-10s in six of her final eight events, including a win at the Paragon Casino Championship in October of 2020. Over the next three seasons, she made 30 more starts, highlighted by a tie for fifth at the Delta Downs Invitational in September of 2021.
A four-time letterwinner with the Longhorns, Luitwieler-Caruana was a part of three-straight Big 12 Championship teams in Austin from 2017-19. In all four seasons on the 40 Acres, she took home Academic All-Big 12 honors and made the Big 12 Academic Honor Roll. On the course, she competed in 27 tournaments across her career, notching a pair of top-10 finishes, including her career-best finish, a tie for 6th, at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational. As a senior, she added another top-10 with a tie for eighth at the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
Luitwieler-Caruana joins Goble and Director of Operations Collin Toner on the Baylor staff.
Formerly Madison Luitwieler, the native Texan married Liam Caruana earlier this year.
