MELBOURNE, Australia – Former Baylor women’s basketball standout Kristy Wallace has been named a 2024 Olympian for women’s 5-on-5 basketball by Basketball Australia, the organization announced last week.
Wallace makes her Olympic debut with the Opals squad of Lauren Jackson, Cayla George, Marianna Tolo, Tess Madgen, Rebecca Allen, Ezi Magbegor, Alanna Smith, Steph Talbot, Sami Whitcomb, Jade Melbourne and Isobel Borlase.
The Opals are coached by Sandy Brondello with assistants Cheryl Chambers, Shannon Seebohm and Paul Goriss.
The Queensland, Austria, native won a pair of bronze medals with the Opals in the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup and the 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup and currently plays alongside NaLyssa Smith with the Indiana Fever. Wallace made her WNBA debut with the Atlanta Dream in 2022 after being named the WNBL Sixth Woman of the Year with the Southside Flyers in Australia.
Before a season-ending injury to close out her time as a Bear in 2018, Wallace was a five-time All-Big 12 team member highlighted by a unanimous first team nod her senior season. The guard also received WBCA All-America Honorable Mention recognition with a spot on the All-Region 3 Team after her final season in Waco. Wallace had six top-10 records in Baylor history at the finalization of her collegiate career in assists (third), three-point field goal attempts (fourth), three-point field goals made (fifth), three-point field goal percentage (ninth), games played (10th) and assists per game (10th).
The third-ranked Australian team opens group play in Pool B against No. 5 Canada, No. 7 France and No. 12 Nigeria at Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, France. After group play, the top team from each pool heads to Bercy Arena in Paris.
Wallace joins BU men’s tennis letterwinner John Peers in suiting up for Australia and is one of six athletes repping the Bears in Paris this summer.
Baylor women's basketball is presented by Central National Bank, a family-owned, independent bank headquartered in Waco, Texas, that provides uniquely personal service while simultaneously embracing the latest developments in banking technology.
