IRVING, Texas – Baylor football redshirt junior quarterback Sawyer Robertson and redshirt freshman running back Bryson Washington have been named Big 12 Players of the Week, as announced Monday by the conference office.
Robertson was named a Co-Offensive Player of the Week, his second weekly conference award of the year, while Washington picked up Newcomer of the Week honors for the third time this season.
BU’s signal caller was excellent in the 45-17 win over Kansas on Saturday, completing 23 of 31 pass attempts for 310 yards and four touchdowns. Robertson connected on TD strikes of 36, 39, 14 and 20 yards, including a pair of identical back-shoulder throws to Monaray Baldwin in the corner of the end zone. This marked Robertson’s third 300-yard passing performance of the season, fifth start without an interception and sixth game with at least three passing TDs in 2024.
With 26 passing scores on the year, Robertson now sits alone in sixth place on BU’s single-season leaderboard, while his 2,624 passing yards ranks 10th in Baylor single-season history.
Meanwhile, Washington was unstoppable in the dominating victory, rushing 28 times for 192 yards (6.9 yards per carry) and two scores. With the performance, Washington set Baylor’s freshman single-season rushing record with 1,004 yards, becoming the first rookie to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark in school history. This was Washington’s sixth 100-yard performance of the year, the most by any freshman in program history, and fifth in his last six games. Washington is the only Big 12 running back to log multiple games with 190+ rushing yards in 2024.
The effort also marked Washington’s fourth multi-TD game of the season. With 12 touchdowns in 2024, Washington ranks tied for eighth on BU’s single-season rushing TD leaderboard.
This week’s awards are Baylor’s sixth and seventh of the season, its most in a single season since 2019 (10). Robertson joins Robert Griffin III (2011, three times) as the only Bears in program history to earn Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors twice in a season. Previously tied with Richard Reese’s pair of Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors in 2022, Washington now sits alone as the only three-time winner of the award in BU history.
