CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Baylor women’s golf moved into 12th place on the final day of the Tar Heel Invite on Tuesday, finishing with a 35-over 899.

Baylor carded its lowest round of the tournament Tuesday with an 8-over 296. Rosie Belsham and Sera Hesegawa finished the day with 1-over 73s to pace the Bears. Silje Ohma tallied the lowest overall score on the team with a 4-over 220, good enough to tie for 20th.

With the help of the individual champion Maisie Filler’s 13-under 203, the Florida Gators captured the team title with a 16-under 848.

The Rundown

Belsham started on No. 16 and carded back-to-back bogeys. She recovered with two birdies on Nos. 2 and 3 and got back to even. The senior made another birdie on No. 8 and completed a bogey-free first nine. Two bogeys at Nos. 11 and 14 dropped her back over par, and she tied for 49th with a score of 1-over 73. The England native closed out the tournament with an 11-over 227.

Hasegawa tied for her best score of the tournament with a 1-over 73. Starting at No. 16, she played the first three holes at even, until a bogey at No. 1 spoiled her par streak. Hasegawa’s birdie on No. 3 was offset by a bogey at No. 4, but she bagged two birdies at Nos. 6 and 7. Nos. 8 and 9 proved to be trouble for a second day in a row, as the junior made a bogey and a triple bogey, respectively. She bounced back with a pair of birdies at Nos. 10 and 11. Hasegawa finished off her week with a bogey at No. 12 and a birdie at No. 15 to finish 44th.

Ohma opened her final round with two bogeys at Nos. 15 and 17, around a double bogey at No. 15. The All-American chipped away to get back to even with three birdies on Nos. 4, 10 and 13. A bogey on No. 5 was her lone-remaining blemish, as she ended the day with a 2-over 74.

Ashleen Kaur finished her day with a 4-over 76 and an overall score of 13-over 229. The freshman carded a birdie on her second hole of the day at No. 18. She sat at even after a bogey at No. 1, and added another bogey at No. 5. Two birdies at Nos. 6 and 8 helped get her back under par, but Kaur carded a seven at No. 9. The Cy Fair native carded a birdie at No. 10, but closed with a bogey at No. 12 and a double bogey at No. 16, to end the event tied for 60th.

Britta Snyder tied for her best round of the week at 4-over 76. A bogey at No. 18 and a birdie at No. 2 put her at even through four holes. With a bogeys at Nos. 7 and 9 and two double bogeys at Nos. 8 and 11, Snyder dropped to 6-over. The senior finished strong with birdies at Nos. 15 and 17, to conclude the tournament in 69th with a 17-over 233.

HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Sera Hasegawa tied for the third-best par-5 scoring average (4.67)
  *   Hasegawa tied for the fifth-most birdies in the field this week (12)
  *   Silje Ohma carded her first top-25 finish of the season.

QUOTABLE
Head coach Jay Goble — “I was proud to see us fight in that final round and pick up a spot, while some individuals moved up. I expect that we’ll get back home and get to work to make sure we close the semester with a strong showing in Hawaii in a few weeks.”
