KAPOLEI, Hawaii – Baylor men’s golf sits tied for third, within six shots of the lead, after the second round of the Kapolei Invitational on Wednesday at Kapolei Golf Club.

Trey Bosco continues to set the pace for BU with a 10-under 134, good enough for a tie for seventh.

The Bears are six shots behind Loyola Marymount, who fired a 24-under 264 to move up five places and overtake the team lead with a 36-under 540. Marymount’s Tony Hendricks and UC San Diego’s Kyle Dougherty are tied for the individual lead at 12-under through two rounds. Eleven players, including Bosco, are within two shots of the individual lead.

THE RUNDOWN
Bosco played his first seven holes at 1-under, thanks to a birdie at No. 4. He made a bogey at No. 8, but closed the front nine with a birdie at No. 9 to make the turn in red figures. After making a birdie at No. 11, he stumbled with a bogey at No. 13 before closing strong with birdies on three of his final five holes at Nos. 14, 15 and 17.

Luke Dossey finished the day with a 4-under 68 to finish Wednesday in a tie for 12th. The senior opened with a birdie at No. 1 but dropped back to even with a bogey at No. 6. Dossey closed the front nine with a bang, thanks to birdies at Nos. 7 and 9 for a 2-under 34 on the front nine. He picked up where he left off on the back nine with three birdies in his first five holes. A bogey at the last dropped Dossey back to 4-under for the round and 9-under for the tournament.

Johnny Keefer recorded a third-straight round in the 60s this season with a 3-under 69 on Wednesday. The senior birdied three of his first four holes, with only a bogey at No. 2 breaking the string. He closed out the front side with birdies at Nos. 7 and 9 for a 4-under 32. On the inward half, Keefer strung together eight pars, interrupted only by a bogey at No. 15 to finish the day in a tie for 19th.

Zach Heffernan is in a tie for 40th after an even-par 72 on Wednesday. Following an early stumble with a double-bogey six at No. 3, Heffernan closed the front nine with birdies at Nos. 7 and 9 to get back to even at the turn. He dipped into red figures for the first time with a birdie at No. 14 before closing with a bogey at No. 18.

Jonas Appel shot a 2-over 74 on Wednesday to finish the day tied for 76th. After four pars to open the round, Appel made a bogey at No. 5 but closed strong with two birdies to make the turn with a 1-under 35. The sophomore made just two pars on the inward half with birdies at Nos. 14 and 17 and bogeys at Nos. 10, 12, 13, 15 and 16.

Tyler Isenhart continued his strong play with a second-straight 4-under 68 to finish tied for 16th and lead BU’s individual contingent. Davis Ovard used a career-best 5-under 67 to climb 35 spots, while Luke Morgan also carded an under-par round with a 2-under 70. Patricio Gonzalez shot a 1-over 73 to pull into a tie for 93rd, while Sam Dossey is tied for 109th.

HIGHLIGHTS

  *   BU leads the field with 53 birdies through two rounds.
  *   Baylor has the second-best par-5 scoring average through two rounds (4.38).
  *   With his second-round 67, Davis Ovard set a new career-low round.
  *   Luke Dossey set a new career-best 36-hole score with a 9-under 135.
  *   Zach Heffernan carded his career-best 36-hole score with a 4-under 140.
  *   Trey Bosco shot back-to-back rounds in the 60s for the second time in his career and the first time since the Minnesota Golf Classic in September 2022.
  *   Johnny Keefer has a team-leading five rounds in the 60s this season.
