WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – No. 1 seed Baylor acrobatics & tumbling defeated No. 8 seed Fairmont State on Thursday afternoon in the ASRC on the campus of West Liberty, winning 278.930 to 258.165 in the NCATA quarterfinals to advance to Friday’s semifinals meet two.

The Bears (9-0) downed the Falcons (9-3) with a point differential of 20.765.

THE RUNDOWN

Starting off the meet, Baylor had a Compulsory score of 38.375 after earning 9s in all heats, the first team of the day to earn a 9.0 in Compulsory Tumbling. A score of 9.70 was garnered in Acro, 9.825 in Pyramid, 9.85 in Toss and a 9.0 in Tumbling. Going into the second event, BU was up 38.375 to FSU’s 35.00 score.

Moving into the optional portion of the meet, Baylor had a score of 9.95 in Heat 1, 9.575 in Heat 2 and 9.95 in Heat 3 of Acro to total 29.475 for the event. The Falcons had scores of 8.90, 8.725, 9.375, respectively, for a total of 27.00. Going into the Pyramid event, BU was up 67.85 to Fairmont’s 62.00.

In the Pyramid event, the Bears earned a 9.95 in Heat 1, the inversion heat. In heat two, BU earned a 9.85, the synchronized heat. In heat three, the Bears scored a 9.925. With the event scoring a 29.725, the running total was updated to 97.575 for Baylor. Fairmont State totaled 28.600 for the event and had a score of 90.60 going into halftime, the Bears up 6.975-points.

In the Toss Event, Baylor had scores of 9.675, 9.55 and 9.825, respectively, to total 29.05 for the event. The Falcons scored an 8.90, 8.95 and 9.575, respectively, to total 27.425. Going into the fifth event, Tumbling, the Bears were up 126.625 to FSU’s 118.025.

In the Tumbling Event, Heat 1 (Duo) with junior Kristen McCain and freshman Aliyah “Chibi” Thomas scored a 9.150. In the Trio Heat (Heat 2), Kamryn Kitchens, Aliyah Kaloostian and Ally Joswick scored a 8.500. The Quad Pass (Heat 3) had Katie Shiffer, Gianna Cameron, Emily Tobin and Alayja Reynolds score an 8.725. The Aerial pass from Thomas earned a 9.800, McCain in the 6 Element pass (Heat 5) had a 9.925 to highlight the event, and Kitchens in the Open pass (Heat 6) earned a 9.875. The Bears’ total came to 55.975 for the event, while the Falcons scored a 52.550. Going into the nights final event, BU was up 182.600 to 170.575 from FSU.

In the Team event, Baylor earned a score of 96.330 while Fairmont earned a 87.59, bringing the meet score to a total of 278.930 to 258.165, BU taking the win.
