PHOENIX, Ariz. – Baylor women's golf came up just short against Kansas in the Big 12 Match Play semifinals on Saturday at Kierland Golf Club.

The match was tied 2-2-1 after 18 holes, but Kansas’ 7-4 advantage in margin of victory pushed the Jayhawks past the Bears and into the finals on Sunday. Sera Hasegawa continued her stellar play, winning all three matches on Saturday to lead the Bears and run her record to 6-1 for the week. Only one of her matches has made it to the 18th hole, which was her 1-up loss to Clemence Martin on Friday afternoon.

Kansas and Texas will meet in the championship final, while Baylor will meet TCU in the third-place match. Iowa State and Oklahoma will meet in the fifth-place match, while Texas Tech and Oklahoma State will battle it out for seventh.

THE RUNDOWN
Morning Session
Sera Hasegawa went 2-0 in the morning session with a 4&3 win over Pimkwan Chookaew of Iowa State and a 2&1 win over Texas’ Emily Odwin. Against Chookaew, the sophomore held a 1-up lead after four and would not lose another hole, winning at Nos. 5, 7 and 12 to close out the match. Facing off with Odwin, Hasegawa took an early 1-up lead through four holes and did not trail until she lost at Nos. 8 and 9 to trail by one. She responded with wins at Nos. 11, 12 and 13 to close out the match.

Rosie Belsham split her two matches on Saturday morning with a 3&2 win over Texas’ Sophie Guo and a 1-up loss to Iowa State’s Liyana Durisic. Belsham never trailed against Guo, winning at Nos. 2, 4, 7 and 9 to take a 2-up lead at the turn. Guo trimmed Belsham’s lead to 1-up through 13, but Belsham responded with wins at No. 14 and 16 to close the match. Against Durisic, Belsham took her first lead at No. 4 and held it through No. 6, at which point she dropped two-straight holes to fall 1-down. Belsham would wrestle the match back with wins at Nos. 14 and 15 before Durisic won the last two holes to take the match 1-up.

Hannah Karg also split her morning matches with a 6&5 domination of Iowa State's Ruby Chou and a 3&2 loss to Texas' Angela Heo. The senior started strong against Chou with wins on three of her first four holes to go 3-up. After trimming her lead to 2-up, Karg won Nos. 4, 5, 8 and 9 to close the match. In her match against Heo, the two split three holes to start, but Heo won at Nos. 18, 1 and 2 to take a 3-up lead. Karg would win holes No. 4 and 10 to get within two but could draw no closer.

After going a perfect 4-0 on Friday, Silje Ohma dropped two matches on Saturday morning, falling 3&2 to Bentley Cotton and 1-up to Iowa State’s Taglao Jeeravivitaporn. Against Jeeravivitaporn, Ohma fell 1-down on the first hole and battled to even the match on two occasions at Nos. 2 and 7, but Jeeravivitaporn picked up wins at Nos. 8 and 9 to take the lead she would not relinquish again. After dropping the first hole against Cotton, Ohma pulled back even at No. 18 and would stay there through No. 3 when Cotton won two-straight holes to go 2-up. Cotton's lead would swell to 3-up, where it would finish after 16 holes.

Britta Snyder dropped a pair of matches in the morning session to Texas’ Bohyun Park and Iowa State’s Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn. Against Chul-Ak-Sorn, Snyder dropped the first hole to go 1-down but would battle to stay within one through nine holes until Chul-Ak-Sorn would take a 2-up lead that swelled to 3-up through 14 holes. Snyder would win two straight to get to 1-down with two holes to play, but a loss at 17 would close out the match at 2&1. The junior would drop her match to Park 3&1.
