NORMAN, Okla. – Silje Ohma tied a school record with a 65 to lead Baylor women’s golf to a fifth-place finish at the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club Monday.

After leading the team with a 3-under 67 in her first career round on Saturday, Ohma joined nine other players in program history by shooting a 65 in the final round to finish tied for 10th.

“She’s pretty much the whole package,” head coach Jay Goble said. “Not only can she hit the ball a long way, but this week she hit some great wedge shots and putted the ball well. I was very impressed with her game in a competitive environment, and the most exciting part is that she will just continue to improve."

Ohma started out on fire with two birdies and an eagle in her first five holes to reach 3-under par. She closed the front nine with birdies at Nos. 8 and 9 to get to 5-under and card a front-nine 31. She made a couple of bogeys at Nos. 12 and 14 but recorded two more birdies at Nos. 16 and 18 to get back to even-par on the back-nine and five under for the round.

Sera Hasegawa finished tied for 15th with a 1-under 209 after a 2-over 72 in the final round on Monday. She started with a bogey at No. 1 and made another at No. 6, before closing her outward nine with a birdie at nine. She back that up with birdies at Nos. 10 and 15, but made bogeys at Nos. 11, 13 and 18 to close out the round.

Rosie Belsham finished tied for 32nd following a 3-over 73 on Monday. The junior began her round with five-straight pars before her first bogey at No. 6. She made the turn at even par thanks to a birdie at No. 9, but bogeys at Nos. 10, 14 and 17 finished off her 73.

BaiMai Seema recorded the best round of her young career with a 1-under 69 on Monday to finish tied for 42nd. The sophomore bogeyed No. 4 for her second bogey of the day, but it would also be her last. She closed the front nine with birdies at Nos. 6 and 9 to get back to even par. She continued her strong play on the back nine with eight pars around a birdie at No. 14 to close out her third career round at par or better.

Britta Snyder was also in red figures in the final round as a 1-under 69 tied her with Seema and four others in 42nd place. Snyder made an early birdie at No. 2 and later bounced back from a bogey at No. 4 with a birdie at No. 7, to record a 1-under 35 on the front nine. The sophomore reeled off six-straight pars to open the back nine before going birdie-bogey at Nos. 16 and 17 to shoot an even-par 34 on her closing nine.

Anika Veintemilla finished tied for 68th as an individual. She carded three birdies on the front side at Nos. 11, 13 and 18, offset by a double bogey at No. 14 and a bogey at No. 15. She finished off her round with seven pars and two bogeys on the front side for a 2-over 72.

Florida State captured the team title with a 12-under 828, while TCU’s Caitlyn Macnab used a final-round 64 to capture the individual title by a shot over Iowa State’s Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
Head coach Jay Goble – “We showed some really good things, even if we didn’t have our best stuff in our first tournament of the year. Most of these girls have not played a competitive tournament in about 50-60 days, which is a long time in golf. We were able to knock off some rust in our short game and decision making, which gives us some things to work on as we prepare to go to Stanford next month."

WHAT’S NEXT
BU will return to action at the Stanford Intercollegiate in Stanford, Calif., Oct. 21-23. For more information on Baylor Women’s Golf, follow @BaylorWGolf on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
