ESTERO, Fla. – The No. 21 Baylor women’s basketball team (3-1) hits the road for the first time this season when it travels to compete in the Florida Gulf Coast Showcase, Nov. 25-27.

The Bears open tournament play against Saint Louis on Friday at 10 a.m. CT, before taking on either No. 23 Villanova or Belmont on Saturday. BU wraps up the three-day event on Sunday with an opponent and game time to be determined later in the week.

All three contests will be available for streaming via a FloHoops subscription<https://www.flohoops.com/live/46404>. A live radio broadcast<https://thevarsitynetwork.com/audioapplink/source/oas-1459/content/baylor:allaccess-Live-2850> on ESPN Central Texas (104.9 FM) is also available for fans, as well as live in-game updates via Twitter<https://twitter.com/BaylorWBB> or live stats.

SCOUTING THE SHOWCASE

Baylor will be joined by seven others at the tournament. The Bears are making their second appearance at the event, winning it in 2016. On Baylor’s side of the bracket is Saint Louis, Belmont and No. 23 Villanova. As the Bears advance through the weekend, they could face No. 22 Michigan, Air Force, Georgia Tech or USF, who is currently receiving votes in the Top 25 polls. Of the eight teams in this year’s showcase, six made an appearance in the 2022 NCAA Tournament, with Michigan advancing all the way to the Elite Eight a year ago.

SCOUTING THE BILLIKENS

Baylor’s tournament-opening game against Saint Louis will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The Billikens are 1-5 to start the year, dropping their last four contests. SLU’s lone win was a 95-38 offensive explosion against SIUE on Nov. 11.

The Billikens are led by Kyla McMakin, who is averaging 21.2 points per game, while Camree Clegg and Brooke Flowers are also averaging double-digit point figures. In the Billikens’ 71-67 setback to South Dakota last week, Flowers tied the program’s single-game blocked shots record with nine.

LAST TIME OUT

The Bears were narrowly edged by Maryland, 73-68, on Sunday inside the Ferrell Center. Baylor’s 68 points were the third-most scored in a game this year by the Bears and second-most allowed by the Terrapins. The Bears forced 19 turnovers, marking the third time in four games this year that BU has forced its opponents to turn the ball over 19-plus times.

Junior Sarah Andrews led the way offensively, matching a career-high 25 points, reaching double-figure scoring in all four games for BU to start the season. Senior Jaden Owens matched a team-best six assists, bringing her season total to 29, which ranks 14th nationally and first in the Big 12.
