SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Baylor’s Gurleen Kaur played her final round for the Bears on Monday, wrapping up her career with a 5-over 77 at Grayhawk Golf Club in the NCAA Championship.

The senior advanced to the final round by finishing as one of the top-nine individuals on a non-advancing team through 54 holes. Kaur was the first individual since Laura Lonardi in 2016 to compete in the NCAA Championship as an individual.

Kaur started her round on the back nine and opened with pars on five of her first six holes, the only blemish coming at the 11th with a bogey six. Kaur closed the opening nine with three more bogeys at 16, 17 and 18 for a 4-over 40 on her outward nine.

For a second-straight day, she parred No. 1, which played as the hardest hole this week with a stroke average of 4.52. Following a bogey at No. 3, Kaur made six-straight pars to close out her round and her Baylor career to finish with a 5-over 77. Regardless of the score, Kaur cherished the opportunity to spend one more round with her teammates and one more round in green and golf.

“Today was special,” she said. “I got to walk with Jay [Goble] and it was really rewarding. I’m grateful for all the time that I have had here. It’s hard to leave because I’m so close with everyone, but my time here has been really special.”

Stanford freshman Rose Zhang took home the individual title with a total of 6-under 282.

HIGHLIGHTS

• With her 145th career round on Monday, Kaur added to her record and finishes with five more rounds than second-place Hayley Davis.

• She finished the season with a stroke average of 72.03, falling just short of her own record of 71.97, set last year.

• Kaur’s five single-season stroke averages rank Nos. 1, 2, 9, 13 and 24 in program history.

• The senior finished with the second-best career stroke average with a 72.48.

• She passed Hayley Davis this week for the most NCAA Championship rounds played with 12 to Davis’ eight.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

Head coach Jay Goble on one more round with Gurleen: “To spend another round of golf and another day with Gurleen was really special. I think she's a really special young woman, so to be able to walk around the golf course with her for five hours again today was great. She's going to leave a very long everlasting footprint at Baylor, 145 career rounds is a record I don't see ever being broken. When you recruit someone, you hope they turn out to be 1/10th as great as Gurleen. When you talk about the Mount Rushmore of Baylor Golf, she’s not only on it, she’s got to be at the front of it.”
