Baylor MT Lands Three Singles, Two Doubles Pairs in NCAA Championship Competition

WACO, Texas – The Baylor men's tennis team had three singles and two doubles pairs selected to participate in the NCAA Championships, announced Tuesday by the NCAA.

Junior Adrian Boitan was named the No. 5 seed for the singles competition, while sophomore Tadeas Paroulek and senior Matias Soto earned at-large bids.

On the doubles side, Finn Bass and Sven Lah were named the No. 3 seed, while Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi and Soto were an at-large selection.

The singles and doubles competition will take place from May 23-28 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Illinois, after the conclusion of the team championships.

All matches will be best-of-three sets, with no-ad scoring and a seven-point tiebreaker (first to seven points, win by two points) at six-games-all will be used for the singles matches. A 10-point match tiebreaker will be used in doubles play in lieu of a full third set.

Boitan is currently the No. 4 player in the latest ITA rankings, while Soto is No. 38 and Paroulek is 70th. Also ranked are Bass and Lah at No. 3, while Grassi Mazzuchi and Soto are No. 9.

Boitan is currently 19-2 for the year in singles, going a perfect 17-0 in regular-season dual play, all on the top court for the Bears. Paroulek is 20-5 for the year with a 13-2 dual record, going 9-2 on court five and 4-1 on court six. Soto is 15-9 for the season and 13-8 in dual matches, with an 8-8 record on court two and 5-0 on the top court. Against ranked opponents this season, Boitan is 7-2, Paorulek is 3-2 and Soto is 4-6.

In doubles play, pair Bass and Lah are 20-9 for the year and 14-6 in dual matches on court one. They are 5-6 when playing a nationally ranked opponent. Grassi Mazzuchi and Soto have played all their dual matches on court two, going 19-5, with a 6-2 record against ranked foes.

Team competition was announced by the NCAA on Monday, with the Bears named the overall No. 3 seed for the tournament. It was the second year in a row where BU was named a top-3 seed. Baylor will serve as one of 16 hosts for the First and Second Rounds, with Abilene Christian, Texas A&M and Tulsa coming to Waco. The Bears will face ACU on Friday, May 6, at 6 p.m., while TAMU and Tulsa will face off at 3 p.m. earlier that day. The winner of each match will play each other on Saturday at 6 p.m. for a spot in the Round of 16.
